Tammy Duckworth would have been a better pick, much harder to attack, from the midwest, military vet is always a +. Plus she has some fun fact type stuff like first Senator to give birth while serving that could show up in campaign ads. I don't really know why all the Bernie people are so upset over this pick, isn't she a supporter of single-payer?

Considering the US continues to experience sustained race riots in every major city for months now, and that black women are literally the backbone of the Democratic Party, and don't think the value of Kamala on this ticket can be overstated.

She was the best choice and that's why she was picked.

Also, Bernie bros will always be upset. Always. No matter who Biden chose. Can we even count on them to support Democrats in general? I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Damn ma give it up, I’ve never been happier today as a non american citizen than ever before <3 Let’s not pretend online discourse has 0 impact. I’m pretty sure if that was the case Rachel Maddow wouldn’t be a household name rn.

And yes, she will be. If progressives don’t get together and fight for it. Obama was no one’s VP and less experienced than AOC when he ran for president.

You aren’t we, ma.

Obama was a Nominee after a Republican President. He was not a former VP. Follow the pattern here.

And people really sit here and gladly stand behind this. Two people who have built a career upon incarcerating black people, and now pander to them for votes.

The same people who support someone as racist as Kamala are always in total shock that a human being can support Trump's racism  lol

Idk, I feel like people such as Nina Turner and AOC kinda disprove that luxury thing, but since I’m not hung up on representation, I’m completely fine with a while man pushing a pro black agenda.

oh for sure! Nina, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Lauren Underwood, Ayanna Pressley – all wonderful examples.

but they were all JUST elected, and have only risen to power as Bernie has revitalized American progressivism.

Biden was explicitly looking for someone with extensive government experience, and once it was evident he was likely to choose a black woman, it became abundantly clear that there just wasn't a black woman who fit everything he wanted: someone with long government experience who was a governor or senator and who was progressive-leaning to balance him out. Which is why he interviewed people like Keisha Lance Bottoms, Val Demings, Karen Bass. More often than not, the vice president is a governor or senator.

(i think it's stupid, i think any government experience is good experience, but that's the way his campaign was looking at it)

He really picked the cop. :air:

Cops aren't the problem.

Systemic racism + putting too much on cops plates is the problem.

We're always going to need cops.

Having more black cops is part of the solution.  Taking funding from the police to fund help for domestic violence, substance abuse & mental illness is another part.  Getting rid of those in power who seek to empower a racist system is another part.

That's why it's important to not reelect Donald Trump, and why it's harmful to attack the only chance we have at getting rid of him.

Ya'll call Joe a rapist and bash him more than the GOP/Trump and you expect him to choose someone from your cult? FOH.

LMAO you mean unite both sides of the party like a normal candidate? Yes. Read an option poll. The Dem base sides more with Bernie on the issues. M4A is at 88% w Dems, and 68% with Independents. It’s only fair to give the voters what they want.

Your issue is you don’t care about the policies bc you’re probably relatively privileged and so you only focus on the irrelevant interpersonal stuff like this. Politics is where adults come to solve real world problems, not play RHOA. Please educate yourself on the issues

I’d rather be a cultist for someone who’s gonna bring racism, income inequality, and climate change to its knees, over being a cultist over someone who won’t and going yas queen over a politician 💀

Joe Biden is a rapist.

She enabled the systemic racist structures as attorney general.

Joe Biden is a rapist.

Joe Biden is NOT a rapist.  There is an accusation from someone who has been shown to have no credibility.

Sniffing hair and standing too close is weird, but it's not rape.

Anyone who thinks Joe Biden is a rapist should read this article:

I believe Tara. You should too. The fact you want to shame a victim is abhorrent.

I say this to you as someone coming from a place of compassion, but you sounds like a literal crazy person on the street lol.

I think most of us are here to celebrate this historic news. If you don't feel the same way, you actually don't have to post at all! It's a really good feeling to chose not to be an a**hole :)

This isn't surprising.  The neoliberal democrats are really pushing us lefties away.  Not that they owed us anything but if they wanted us to vote for them...

This is the second time they have screwed Bernie (looking at your allegations, Warren) and have put up establishment candidates when quite a few of us are moving more to the left.  My understanding is that, under Biden/Harris, we will still have 4 more years of privatized healthcare (puke); will not defund or abolish police (since Harris is really a cop); and will not federally legalize marijuana and expunge records -- to name a few things.  No Green New Deal, too, as I understand it.
[Please correct me if I am wrong about their platforms -- not trying to spread misinformation].

After (presumably going on 8 years of this democratic platform/messaging), I am tired of it and will vote third party after Biden is elected.  Don't chew me out -- I'll suck it up and vote for these two to get orange man out.  And thankfully progressives like Bernie keep fighting the good fight.

In what world is this the tradition?

HISTORIC!

Glad I can say that I supported the first woman, first african american, and first asian american VP from day 1.

Let's support this ticket and defeat Donald Trump!

Here is a quick summary and even tho it says it ended in 1970, Obama and Trump did the same thing last time so it didn’t completely die.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticket_balance

Altho, I have to say Joe is the second, bc Hillary chose Tim Kaine which no one knew or cared about, and he certainly wasn’t appealing to the populous...

I would like for you to attempt to make an argument instead of calling me a crazy person in the name of compassion..

And this thread is a place to discuss the news, not to celebrate "historical" moments.
