And there are already lots of those available for you to watch. Meanwhile, there is nothing like Black is King out there. And your comment about it being self promotion shows me you haven't watched it since she's not even the main character in the movie and it's a retelling of Lion King's story. Nothing to do with Beyoncé. I watched it thanks. I have my opinion, you have yours and I respect it.

It seems like you're taking some valid criticism from a minority of people and using it as an excuse to minimize Beyoncé's work or question her intentions. There is no Disney+ in Africa, but it was also made available in multiple African networks, including M-Net, OSN and Canal+Afrique, not to mention Middle-Eastern networks so yeah, your argument there is invalid. Every time someone brings reverse racism to the picture it's just game over. It invalidates your entire comment. First you question how much she loves Africa and then you say she's hyping black people too much It's hard not to laugh. White people rule this world for as long as it exists so yeah, you have no problem with being king but once someone says the people your privilege oppresses are king you get instantly threatened. Her job is not to educate us it is to inspire us, to make us think, to provoke. She's an artists, not a sociologist or a professor. She has artists, cast and crew from multiple African countries. It's not her job to name every culture within Africa, but to create her own vision of what her African roots mean to her. That’s the thing, that user isn’t black yet she LOVES to interject her opinion on black issues. It’s extremely laughable.

Racist opinions. Remember that Beyoncé song? WHO RUNS THE WORLD? GIRLS! That's SEXIST, right? Why not Who Runs the World? BOYS! Because women do NOT run the world, which is why we need to encourage and inspire young women to strive to be all that they can be. As a WOC it baffles me when white people say things like ALL lives matter, or, Black is King... isn't that racist? Is Run the World (Girls) sexist?? And it's surprising that GAYS, of all people, don't understand maybe a little bit what it's like to be a VISUAL minority in America... It's like being OUTED from the day you were born. QUEEN Bey is a cultural icon for a reason. She's beautiful, regal, talented, a successful artist, wealthy businesswoman, married with children and for the most part scandal-free. She has a huge platform and is happy to use it. Good for her! Black is King is all that it needs to be... part cultural history, part fashion ad, part travelogue. It's NOT a documentary. As for the music... well, the visuals are stunning. It's a love letter to Black people - and the timing is fortuitous. You want realism? Watch the news. I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make. My point is that the title Black Is King will be off-putting to the majority of Disney viewers as they have literally been taught institutional racism through the years. And by the way, I am not gay. NewUsername 11,375
Well, 2 million is still a huge number, of course it wasn't going to beat the big Disney movies on the platform, people subscribe to DISNEY for a reason, right? For those who are calling it meh, shame on you, means you don't recognize art even when it's slapped in your face. The pacing and things like that could have maybe been better and the music itself isn't Beyoncé's best work imo for my taste, but it's undeniable what a piece of art this film is. We all wish Gaga would make a visual album. Beyoncé is the best at this and has the best people to make her vision come to life.

Everyone is allowed their opinion even if the situation doesn't directly affect them. I invite men to comment on women's issues, it's only by us all working together do we create any solutions, not to only letting affected communities speak out into the ether. And it is not a "minority" of Africans saying this, there are many. Videos are popping up all over YouTube about how Africans are unimpressed with how their cultures were represented. This is one of the best ones taken from an African affairs channel: Even if it is just a small amount speaking up, surely every black voice matters? Or do they only matter when they speak what you want them to believe? The movie was about Africans. If anyone can have the authority over how they feel about it, it should be them. There is only racism, any type of racial supremacy shouldn't be encouraged. I didn't say she's hyping black people too much, I said she's over-exaggerating how anyone should feel their worth. Comparing yourself to royalty to find self-acceptance is a concept that will just leave you empty. Why is being royal problematic if you're white but a sign of empowerment if you're black? Shouldn't the aim be for a republic so no one can rule over anyone and all can be equal? White people rule the western world, actually. It's not accurate or fair to act like POC don't have power over their native nations. And I have no desire to be royalty, most of us don't. I don't want power over anyone. This isn't about feeling threatened, it's about being against toxic ideas about how people should feel their worth. Don't take it from the superficial nature of royalty. Well, if her African roots mean so much to her, she could at least research them better to give a consistent display of them instead of mixing and matching. One minute, we're told this is educational, the next it's just an art project. We need to stop bigging this up as more than it is or acting like it's actually having proper impact. Figures show that barely anyone's watching it. Barely anyone bought the album its based upon. We need to stop pretending Beyonce is inspiring hundreds of millions of people. It's all a convoluted exaggeration. 3 hours ago, Borislshere said: That’s the thing, that user isn’t black yet she LOVES to interject her opinion on black issues. It’s extremely laughable. All I could find was Ethiopia for Beyonce Experience and Egypt for Sasha Fierce. Nothing else. Where are you getting Nigeria from? Did she just do a one off performance that wasn't part of a tour or something? Other artists have actually done multiple dates in each country before. Celine Dion did 9 gigs in 5 cities in SA with a single tour back in the day. If Katy could do it for Witness, I don't see why Beyonce couldn't do it with the much more successful Lemonade. Ok, she visited Egypt once. But she hardly makes a habit of it, does she?
