NFRatwell 23,290
I keep seeing people compare this summer to the “blackout” that happened during the “messy” post-ARTPOP release. and y’all really don’t seem to remember it that well. First of all, after the release in November alone, she did SNL, Went to multiple radio interviews, did the Ellen show, the AMAs, went to Japan and did SMAP SMAP In December she did the Alan Char Show, the Jingle Bell Ball, and went on The Voice, all while still updating social media almost daily She started January with the release of the Christina ft of DWUW, went to the Golden Globes, the Versace fashion show, released a Gagavision, went and performed at the Music Cares event, and still she was posting on social media constantly interacting with fans. After all this “blackout” she posted how she was hard at work and assured her fans that the ARTPOP era was still going on. Then in February she “went back” to promoting by performing on Jimmy Fallon and announcing her SXSW performance. Again all while staying on social media and updating us. This is what y’all keep referring to as her “messy” and “mid-era ARTPOP blackout”
numb the flame 7,321
the ARTPOP era blackout really wasn't that bad looking back now huh
Karen Smith 10,026
To be honest, all of that sounds pretty cool for me. Especially now, when we have nothing.
Head Empty 24,838
What you have to understand is that back then we came out of a 4 year period where the flow of content was CONSTANT. Whenever new music was out, there would be multiple performances and interviews every week, with dozens of looks to accompany it. As well as dozens of magazine features, online interactions and her tour. And even when she wasn't directly promoting something (i.e. when she was only doing tour), we'd still get a lot of online content, concert videos and candids of high fashion looks. A week (and at times even a DAY) without new Gaga content wasn't thinkable back then. So when people say there were "blackouts" surrounding the ARTPOP era, we're talking about period where that constant flow of content suddenly slowed down. But I don't think it really stopped for extended periods, except in the lead-up to ARTPOP. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
FfFfFfFF 54,885
I thought by ARTPOP blackout people mean the period of time between her hip surgery and the start of the era, not mid-era pauses.

Nothing about what happened is comparable to this summer. Stans gotta stop giving the ARTPOP era a terrible reputation.

Doot 2
I always thought people were referring to her going silent after her hip broke when referring to the blackout for ARTPOP. She definitely didn't disappear when the album dropped.
LaLa 19,427
It doesn't seem that bad looking at it from today's perspective, I mean we'd probably kill for it now But we weren't really used to any silence from her, or things being teased and then dropped repeatedly. People felt abandoned, whether that perception was actually true or not. It's the amount of anger in the fanbase at the time that made it so messy and horrible. I love ARTPOP and what it had going for it creatively, but in terms of management, timing, execution and fan experience I think the bad reputation is pretty accurate You can't compare it to Chromatica though, because it's a completely different situation in pretty much every regard. We were lucky she acknowledged her VMA noms. CTV was teased then dropped. I think people do feel abandoned, which is sort of true right now. Gaga has somewhat abandoned Chromatica in the eyes of fans as we have zero clue whether she's planning anything.

Yeah, that's why I think the comparison between the eras in fair, even if the circumstances are different. The feelings are very similar. But it's also why I really try and resist getting too upset about anything. It's impossible to judge the era as a whole when we're in the middle of it, and time and again Gaga has proven that she's always got something up her sleeve, even if we can't see it right now. Fans feelings are notoriously bad judges of reality lol

Fans feelings are notoriously bad judges of reality lol I think what would help is if we had any communication with Gaga that doesn't include Haus Labs or Tudor. The silence doesn't help us. She doesn't need to say what it is she's planning, but say she's working and actually stick to her plans even if it means doing it digitally. Gaga said she had surprises for us in her album postponement post but I haven't seen any Chromatica related surprises since May 29.
