Katy, what are you doing? She really can't afford this kinda misstep when she's trying to make a comeback. This is clearly when Ellen's friends are starting to come out the woodwork with support in the hopes that Ellen will continue to, in turn, show support for them if and when she tries to bounce back from this as a thank you for sticking by her. I don't know if anyone remembers this but when all the Weinstein accusations came out, Lindsay Lohan made a video saying that she'd had positive experiences with him and all the hate needed to stop. Many speculated that this was her assuming that, like most famous men, he'd bounce back from this incident and when he did, he'd blacklist everyone who badmouthed him and ensure they never worked in Hollywood again. By being the one actress who showed support, he'd make sure she got work from there on out, as a way of saying thanks. Everyone who supports Ellen at this time will now give off that impression (not saying Ellen's as bad as Harvey obviously but you know what I mean). When will people realise that the "but they were never mean to me" reasoning doesn't wash? Even the worst people have their good side. How else do you think they gained so much money, fame and influence?

This is deeply, deeply problematic.

How wonderful for you that Ellen likes you and that you have had positive experiences with her. That doesn’t change the experiences of others.

It would be like a friend confiding in you that they were sexually assaulted by someone you both know, and you saying, “Well I like them and have only ever had good experiences with them.”

Yikes. Please Gaga please... do the right thing.

Ellen didn’t sexually assault anyone. It’s not the same thing, so don’t even.

Now all she needs is Jake Paul and Jeffree Star to advocate for her and her redemption with the General Public shall be complete.

What I am trying to compare is the way some people respond to hearing that someone they know and are friends with have engaged in problematic/abusive (in some form) behaviour towards others - essentially by saying “Well it didn’t happen to ME, so therefore it can’t possibly be true”. It’s the lack of empathy for others’ experiences and the pain they are in.

Of course she wouldn't treat Katy Perry badly, she's a celebrity. All the people who have come forward are the people that work for her.

Okay, I understand - though I think that was a poor example.

Katy didn’t need to say anything. I think it’s of note that she specifically mentioned her personal experiences with Ellen, and she’s not trying to minimize what Ellen’s employees have endured. She can show support for her problematic friend but not her shitty behavior. I don’t think it’s either/or.

For sure, her experiences are hers and they are valid. The tweets were meaningless communication, in my opinion, and I agree she didn’t need to say anything at all. Except if she felt like saying something like, “I acknowledge that others have had very different experiences than me, and I’m sending love and support to those people” or something, to extend some empathy.

Why tf are you all acting surprised. If she wants to send a supportive message to her friend then she has every right. She’s not doubting any of the claims against Ellen, just speaking on their relationship.
