Brecht 7
I think Taylor is better as a storyteller and Lana is better with poetry, references and metaphors. Also I prefer Lana's melodies better.

IllusionLover 6,934
Not one of her lyrics but her reputation poems hit me hard When she turned to go home, she heard echoes of new words "May your heart remain breakable, but never by the same hand twice" and even louder "without your past, you could never have arrived so wondrously and brutally by design or some violent exquisite happenstance ...here" And in the death of her reputation, she felt truly alive. And this lyric: X marks the spot Where we fell apart He poisoned the well, I was lying to myself I knew it from the first Old Fashioned, we were cursed We never had a shotgun shot in the dark We were jet set Bonnie and Clyde Until I switched to the other side It's no surprise, I turned you in 'Cause us traitors never win I'm in a getaway car I left you in the motel bar I put the money in a bag and stole the keys That was the last time you ever saw me 13 | this is my dancefloor i fought for, your voice is louder, it echoes

Guest
I don't think Lana Del Rey has much competition in the pop world for lyrics. Taylor Swift is amazing lyrically, but I feel Lana has much more profound, thought provoking lyrics than Taylor.
TerrenceV2 2,001
Lana writes poetry and writes an atmospheric scene. Taylor writes for the brunch starbucks white girls who dress up as harley quinn and cute aliens on halloween and think they are unique and want to feel 'deep' about their relatable basic relationships. playground love - josef salvat

Inferno 2,880
Taylor is lightyears less pretentious and more honest lyrically. Imo. Lana is just a whole lot of b/s that impresses the lames. Again, imo.

Her music entirely reflects that in lyricism and sound, I think she even poked fun at herself (without the fun) on Brooklyn Baby, acknowledging said pretension. Personally, I find it kind of cringe/annoying at times, shes made some music i've liked. Whereas, I really don't care for Taylor Swift at all. But if we're talking lyrics, I just think shes a lot more straightforward and honest with her approach and a little less stuffy. I mean Lanas audio album for her poetry book seriously just makes me roll my eyes. Other people find that endearing about her, I don't. But thats just me.
