I’m all about the music. If I like a song or  an album, it’s great to see it do well, but how high something charts or how many awards it wins doesn’t influence my enjoyment of the music.

I suppose I’d say it’s a ratio that isn’t one size fits all. I like seeing Gaga get praise cuz she’s a mainstream artist, but Lana, who I love dearly, I don’t necessarily need her to get that kind of praise cuz she’s indie and she hasn’t in the past.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

Its cute to have your fave be successful but lets be honest, people losing sleep over it need to find a hobby.

Purity Ring is one of my top artists! What did you think about WOMB? How did you feel it compared to last two albums?

They have NO songs that are less than stellar. NONE.

Tbf Another Eternity reigns supreme, but I do have a thing for the more dramatic. Womb is brilliant in its own more muted, introspective way. Silkspun and Pink Lightning are two of my SOTYs.

Another Eternity is my favorite album too, but only by a small margin. Sonically to me, WOMB is a good mix of Another Eternity + Shrines. My favorite songs are rubyinsides, silkspun, almanac, and I like the devil.

Could care less about success.

I enjoy the music first and foremost.

Success is just a nice addition if it happens.

She's already got a good hit with ROM, so I don't really mind if the next single and music video aren't GP/Radio-friendly enough. I want her to release something that she likes. And I want her to promote not because of chart reasons, but I really just want her to perform and talk about her album. That's what I'm missing from her atm.

Rubyinsides is my least favourite but that literally isn’t saying much because its still like, a 10. Almanac grew on me exponentially since my first listens :bradley:

But Pink Lightning was just a MOVEMENT for me. It kept getting deeper and deeper into skin with every listen and I just can’t help but thinking it might be their best song :bradley:

Music like 100%

of course i am happy if they chart well (for example one of my favourite bands got their first number one album after 13 years recently!) but it is largely irrelevant to me, I don’t care what other people think and as long as the artist is able to survive financially and make more music I am more than satisfied

Besides the less popular an artist is the easier it is to get to the front at a live show and the easier it is to have a personal connection to them (meet them, get signed stuff, have genuine conversations etc)

I'm always here for the music first. But if it's great, of course I want more people to experience its greatness. And if it's bad, I don't think it deserves success. Music can unfortunately only be appreciated if we're made aware that it exists so marketing and promotion is where it's at at the end of the day. And if my fave is successful, that means they're guaranteed to keep making albums and going on tour as well as having a high budget for music videos and performances and being more likely to be allowed to make the music that they want. It's when you have lesser success that you become more controlled, which doesn't make for good music. It also helps the perception of your fave if they're successful and generally well-liked.

But as for critic scores, I put next to no stock in them. Professional critics are still getting bribes for good reviews and just follow what other critics are saying, following the narrative of whatever the current perception of the artist is, allowing that to affect their review. That's why I chose to be an amateur critic and always will be.
