Music? Or the bling?

So a certain thread has sparked this curiosity. How much do you care about the music vs how much do you care about the charts/acclaim/public image etc of an artist? Do you not care about charts whatsover? Does a chart position or metacritic score change your opinion on something?

Music vs bling: 50/50? 70/30? 100/0? or?

And why?

Its cute to have your fave be successful but lets be honest, people losing sleep over it need to find a hobby.

I'm interested in an artist first and foremost for the music. But it sure doesn't hurt when your fave smashes the charts and gets awards. The main focus shouldn't be about this tho - I feel like I'm being quite obvious here, but whatever.

I find the majority of chart music these days is generic, throwaway sh*t, so I'd prefer it if it wasn't written for the charts :vegas:

If it's successful, great, but if not then it doesn't affect my opinion of the song.

Music is the most important

Otherwise I don't care about the bling but the artist's image is also important to me

Poppy - Internet mystery, all that cult scheisse and nowadays she's just bad@ss

Lordi - Come on it's a band of monsters, how cool is that

etc

I'm probably wrong

Charts are dumb, music is not a competition, the charts made the stan wars, the hits machines, stans trashing good music because it sold less than 200k.. charts sucks.

bling means nothing to me. my bio may say a bit differently but most artists i actually stan aren’t super successful.

I mean none of us are getting that bling, we're giving them bling lmao but it is satisfying/nice to see your fave be successful. Music first and foremost, bling is an added bonus

Purity Ring is unparalleled in the music industry to this day. Megan James’ lyrics are the best in the history of music, PERIOD.

Music and artistic vision first.

But a successful marketing plan is still needed in my opinion. A great vision has no impact if you can't communicate it right with your target audience.

Chart success (the bling) follows organically after that.
