Also, there’s The Switch Drag Race which is the Chilean version but I think that one got cancelled.

They were supposed to be a part of the franchise, but they didn't buy the rights I think. Which is why the stark difference from the main format of the show. I didn't even watch AS5 and am not watching Canada's Drag Race. We now have RPDR, All Stars, RPDRUK, Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Australia, Drag Race Holland, the Vegas Spinoff, and Secret Celebrity. Its becoming a bit much at this point. I will always watch the main seasons though.

Drag Race is a show made by Ru, an American drag queen, coming from American drag culture. The whole Drag Race aesthetic and concept is inspired by the American ball scene. If you are genuinely interested in amplifying drag and are really daring to put a national label on it and this way introducing it to the masses then take a look at the local drag scene and try to understand where this drag is coming from. By franchising Drag Race as a concept and marketing it to other countries as the "introduction to drag" to the masses it completely distorts national drag identity and erases the idea of drag being a certain form of empowerment of yourself and this also means that it heavily includes where you are coming from. What your drag has to do with your country. Only because RuPaul's Drag Race was so connected to the American roots it made people connect with the contestants and listen to their stories even when they have never seen anything like drag before. People started to understand what drag is about because of the authenticity of the show. If you really want to showcase queens from other countries and make people listen to them and respect them as artists and make them realize how much power and potential drag has then you HAVE to adapt it to the roots of their country. And this means more than just adapting the content and themes of challenges of a reality tv show to the national holiday, a specific humour and / or having queens from different regions. Drag is a universal art form that has existed for hundreds of years and Drag Race Queens are a small percentage of what drag can look like but Drag Race in its concept is not representing enough to be universal. The way this was 100% right but fell on deaf ears because white gays think drag was invented by cute white boys in $10,000 gowns lip syncing to charli xcx. Anybody can do crossdress but american drag culture is special and being sold out/exported to pay for RuPaul's fracking ranch to no benefit of the community.
