Runway 27,876
Judas, Venus and AYO are complete bombs bombs whereas TEOG, DWUW and MR are classiques

Twitter 14
You think The Edge of Glory is boring and her singles are randomly chosen?!?
2School4Cool 6,439
I don’t think this is uncommon at all. Most artists release a lead single (often chosen by the label, or at least the label has a say), then wait to see the fan response to see what the best choice is for the following singles. They may have ideas of what they’d like to see as a single, but that doesn’t mean it’s a strict plan that the artist has to stick to. Plus, everyone is always going to have a different opinion on how to run every piece of promotion. I’m sure for example if she stuck with Venus there would be fans wishing DWUW was the second single instead of just a promo single. Mr S 8,672
If you search google for the phrase "messy era", Gaga is the first item listed. There is no Lady Gaga era without some kind of messiness. Y'all think you're stanning Beyonce/Taylor? So to answer your question, it's because its Gaga. It's what she does. All. The. Time.

Years of waiting and hype and suddenly, Judas is released and IMMEDIATELY dropped for Edge of Boring. I mean, I get it was supposed to be a promo single that took off so they rush-released, but DAYUM!!! It really messed up the artistic integrity of the single selections, didn't it? Then we got Do What U Want, same exact situation. Venus was all set for the second single, with Gaga promoting it and making statements that it was the 2nd single, and then Do What U Want (ft. CENSORED) was released... (We don't have to discuss whether or not it was a good song, this is artistic integrity we're talking about here...) Then we got Million Reasons... Same exact situation A-Yo was all set and she was even performing it. And then we get Million Reasons. So really, for most of her album cycles, the second single was randomly chosen, and all plans went totally out the window in favor of a promo single gone wild. How do you feel about this? Been there, done that, got the blues.

Wet Fire 7,494
"Artistic integrity of the single selections"?  What does that even mean? Selecting singles has nothing to do with artistic integrity. But yes, the record label is kind of messed up for this happening again and again. Plus, The Edge of Glory is one of her best songs.

RochestrMonstr 3,216
TEOG, DWUW, and MR seem like obvious choices as hits for their albums, so it’s strange that she’s had something like this happen so many times where another less obvious single choice has been slated to be the single.
