Others have already suggested this but I’m starting to think they may be correct in saying that Chromatica is her farewell to pop music, i.e. she is ending her career the same way it started: dance music.

Think about it. She’s come full circle. She is the sine curve. The album has healed her and it speaks for itself. It doesn’t need translating.

This could signal she is going back to her roots- her first loves are jazz and film and i think she will focus on that this decade. Maybe even conquer  Broadway.

But - I think (and bow down to pray) she will one day go full on Janis Joplin on us and give the world a hard rock album, but not for a while.

I don’t care. (And I say this in a positive way.)

She doesn’t need to prove a damn thing to anyone anymore. She should make whatever genre of music she wants to. I’d love to hear her make music not intended to top the charts, but rather, music that she ultimately wants to put out. I understand that she’s on a major label and ultimately the music industry is a BUSINESS designed to create profit. So I understand why she feels so pressured to create music that appeals to the public rather than to herself.

I do LOVE Chromatica. But I was a little disappointed that her heart didn’t seem 100% into it, especially before the quarantine happened. It almost seems like she put more effort into ARTPOP, despite the backlash and everything that happened at the time of its release. I love that Chromatica is very deep and personal, even if the meanings are hidden under DANCE beats so the music stays appealing.

songs like Always Remember Us This Way

That's a pop song :vegas:

Gays need to learn ballads can still be pop.

Yes! definitely yes! and embrace experimental. Not rock, not punk, not country, not metal, not hip hop, not soul, not jazz. Experimental and maybe maybe alternative.

Didn't she say in an interview that she loved electronic music? I don't think she hates pop music now. I still believe she shouldn't be signed. She should start her own label and release music that she loves without having to succumb to mainstream limitations.

You're all acting as if she didn't ditch campy EDM pop for like 7 years - half of her career has been dedicated to jazz, soft-rock, ballads, country and covering her favourite artists.

She is not "trapped" in pop music.

Do we know how many more albums she is contracted to release?

I feel like she was forced to make Chromatica when clearly her heart was not fully committed to it.

I believe she’s going through depression right now and I agree with you that it feels like she didn’t want to do this record.

Back during the pre-release discussion threads, I remember someone telling me that she resigned? I'm not sure though

She started off with power ballads (Red and Blue EP) so it’s natural to her.

Today I learned that people classify whatever Red and Blue was as power ballads.

And yet 5 of her 6 solo albums are campy EDM pop :bear:
