So, I just listened to it. Suffice to say, I don't think it was worth anywhere near a 94. There's nothing truly bad on it and a lot of the lyrics are very well put together but it just seems boring and leaves me cold for the most part. Even the best stuff is just ok. It's just typical that Lana Del Rey is one of the artists who, by Taylor's own admission, she's very inspired by and who has clearly inspired an album like this, yet her highest ever MC score is 87 and that was her very first time into the 80's at that.

I'm just so pissed that she took Gaga's records for female artist this year. This might well have been Gaga's last ever chance to get this record, let's be real. Taylor has been the female with the biggest album of the year more than once before, as a matter of fact, she got that title LAST YEAR. But no, she just couldn't hold off on this album till next year as she couldn't stand to be overshadowed by all the big female names that are coming back in 2021. Always has to have the spotlight on her, that girl.

I never said the album wouldn't sell. I'm just saying that it may drop out the charts a lot quicker, not sell as much as previous work and the singles wouldn't be big hits. And I was open to being wrong. There's no need to rub it in.

why does taylor have to dim her shine for the sake of someone else?

If you read what I just said, it should be clear that this is a title she's already achieved a few times before, why does she need it again? Its got to lose its amazingness by this point. Why can't she just let an album cycle pass without being on top for once, let another artist, who she says she supports, shine for once? She can afford to release in the same year as massive names with loyal fans, she won't be accused of flopping if she tries that. But this is the chance for more lowkey artists to triumph this year if she doesn't release. She could release it in January next year, why right now? She won't be touring with it, what's the rush? She just put out her longest ever album last year, her fans didn't need another one so soon. I'm just a firm believer in giving other people a chance. Taylor has achieved plenty by this point, a lot of it undeserved, in my opinion. She should be happy with that and not strive to always be #1.

because taylor is her own woman and can release when she wants to release. why can’t she win it again? if her album is critically acclaimed, a great seller, etc, why shouldn’t she win it again? “more lowkey” is the antithesis of gaga, and i don’t think she’s losing sleep over the fact she potentially won’t win this award this year. taylor doesn’t have to postpone HER album for the sake of someone else.

gaga HAD her chance. but she didn’t promote it. not one live performance. i don’t blame her, if she doesn’t wanna do it, then don’t do it. but don’t act like gaga didn’t have her chance to shine.

I'm a woman and a feminist. Don't even try that. I treat women the same way that men treat other men. Weirdly, a lot of women are kinda intimidated when I do that. It's like they're not used to having someone stand up to any BS and that we've all got to blindly support each other. I'll happily support good women but bad women will get the same reception i give bad men. Not that I'm putting Taylor into this category, necessarily, but it's just when we're on the topic of the myth of how women are pitted against each other more than men. Men are pitted against each other constantly, as befits the stereotype of them wanting to be alpha, dominant and better than the next man. I don't know why women like to make out that it only happens to them. Besides, competition is good to a certain extent.

Because she's won it more than enough times. I hate when artists get greedy. And to the critics, it's amazing. I don't agree. You shouldn't win the title just because that's what you want. By "more lowkey," I just mean artists who can't sell upwards of 500k copies in a week. Gaga's not on the level of females like Taylor, Beyonce, Adele, who can do that. They weren't releasing this year so this was her big chance to be at the top again. I really thought Gaga fans would be more mad about this. And um, where exactly could Gaga promote it? Covid has stopped the chance for lots of live performances and maybe she couldn't be next to Ariana, obviously. And she halted promo to let BLM shine but seems to have tailed off now for whatever reason. A lot of all this isn't her fault. She had her chance to shine, she was shining, brilliantly and then stuff happened. She's already had bad luck getting her album pushed back and having to re-jig and not be able to do all the great performances she had planned and the first single not taking off like it should. Just when she got some luck back, it got doused again, all for an artist who didn't even need the spotlight right now.

you just sound like a sore loser, honestly. it’s like saying everyone needs a participation trophy. gaga could’ve even tweeted about it or acknowledged chromatica’s existence. she’s had time now. again not knocking her for it, but she clearly does not want to do it. no, i’m not mad at another woman deciding to release and doing well. and you know, it’s not ALWAYS about the money or accolades. these people are artists, and as an artist she wanted to release her body of work. everyone has been in quarantine and have had a lot more time at home, so why not use it to its fullest?

I understand where you’re coming from, but by that logic, Taylor should plan her album releases around the schedules of other artists, cause she’ll most likely always come out on top.
She made an album, wanted to release it, and did. Nothing more to say about it. It’s not her job to accommodate the titles held by other artists.

In the end, who cares. Sales are sales, they mean literally nothing in the long run.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

It's really, really difficult but I wouldn't say "unachievable", I'm pretty sure Billie Eilish will do over 1M first week with her next album.

Anyhow, congrats to Taylor, she truly keeps on winning. Besides, this is without any physical copies, right? which means the album will have a more steady sales history.

1M world wide or 1 M US? I'm sure Billie will do very well, but 1M?

Did she have to be on top 2 years in a row? This album wouldn't even have existed had it not been for quarantine. I see no reason why she had to do 2 back to back albums, let your work breathe. She might actually benefit by releasing it next year, allow more time for the virus to cool down, might even be able to tour with it. We, on the other hand, have been waiting nearly 3 years for Gaga to come back with her scheduled studio album. Just when we think she has it in the bag, Taylor of all people comes down with a surprise drop. I hate surprise drop albums, it's really not fair on artists who have painstakingly worked out their schedules and a lot of these surprised drops seem to get critically acclaimed by design. And I'm a person who likes to plan ahead and know what's coming. But I digress. Seriously, why aren't more Gaga fans, on a Gaga fansite, annoyed by this?

I guess I'd be too much of a considerate artist, then. Taylor, on the other hand, is obsessed with charts and awards and always being the best, even though she's more than proved herself. Even winning AOTY twice, something no woman has ever done, wasn't enough for her. She can afford to release in a crowded year in competition with the biggest names. But even she's too afraid to compete with Adele. So she took the easy way out and released now, when she knew she stood no other competition and would have all eyes on her, like they always are. At least I can rest safe in the knowledge that the singles aren't going to be chart monsters.

??? so Taylor has to stop releasing music to let other women get records?? the delusionnn. and Taylor is not only the biggest female of the year but the biggest artist of the year up until now.

You need to let artists be. Both albums are great. Is a free country people can release music whenever they please.
You are so pressed about records and numbers. Clearly Gaga isn’t. So enjoy both albums
