I'm confused, if it sold 1.3 million worldwide (which would mean like 500k in the US) in one day, how can it only do 650k first week?

Wow this is insane. 2 days 650k?

Is this US or WW? If USA that's basically Adele level sales :duck:

And I'm glad it did, tbh, because it's insanely unhealthy for an artist to keep striving for a 1M debut, which in today's day and age, is totally unachievable.

It's really, really difficult but I wouldn't say "unachievable", I'm pretty sure Billie Eilish will do over 1M first week with her next album.

Anyhow, congrats to Taylor, she truly keeps on winning. Besides, this is without any physical copies, right? which means the album will have a more steady sales history.

her streams will be crazy but I highly doubt she'll do 1 million sales first week lol

This. It's especially hard nowadays and perhaps the only person who "might" be able to break 1+ mil is Adele and that's because she has such a wide audience (everything from grandparents to kids and her fans listen to all types of genres).

At the end of the day, there's really no one who sells like Taylor and Adele. Which is why other fanbases (including monsters) are clowns for getting upset their favs don't come close to their #s (I still can't get over fans being upset at Gaga pulling off approx. 275K in her opening week in the middle of a pandemic & mass protests in the US (probably would have been 300k in a different environment)).

Hmm... I HIGHLY doubt Billie will do 1M.

The only artist who could do it is Adele.

She has cross-appeal across age range, gender, nationalities... she could do it based on that.

Billie is a streaming force, but not a physical seller.

Impressive, especially for a surprise drop. It really is amazing how she and Adele basically outsell everyone by 2, 3, 4 x margins. Especially as Taylor isn't even as much as a radio force as she was back in the day....

I felt bad for Gaga for releasing such a thunderous album she could have promoted in big, beautiful ways but the stupid pandemic had halted her plans :fatcat:
