Because unfortunately to many, the less that experience it first hand (or know those who have), the less likely they believe it will affect them (or even think it's true). 

Even if it was some elaborate scam, I'd rather be safe versus sorry. I mean, aside from wearing masks and not going to huge concert events, does it really change all that much?
