REALITY 80,348
31 minutes ago, President Biden said: but it isn’t. Literally NOBODY of any power is saying to not wear a mask. Trump encouraged people to wear one. Same with Pence, **** Cheney, etc. So that’s just a bad argument because literally no one of any political office is anti-mask. Sure are some people skeptical of the tyranny of government mandating masks? Yes. Are some people skeptical about the science behind masks, as they don’t prevent all transmission? Also yes. And that’s fair, understandable and okay. We should always question things. But what the article does point out is: 1. Case and point, children don’t contract nor die of this disease. Claim apl the theory you want, but the #s show that the amount of cases in ages 8-18 are statistically null. 2. School is not “guaranteed safety” from all risk. Students get killed in sports injuries at school. High schoolers die in car accidents. Etc etc etc. So to just cancel all school because of a limited risk, would be to cancel it indefinitely. 3. Online school, like you said, is not affordable. But not just on college tuition, but in all K-12 schools. Lower income area schools, where students frequently lack internet access and safety at home, are not just unable to do school because the government hasn’t bought them a new Chromebook. That’s an easy band-aid of a fix. These kids love in unsafe environments. The amount of abuse has risen due to lockdown, as people are forced to stay at home with abusive individuals. Students are less likely to seek shelter in teachers about issues like LGBT discrimination if they are stuck in an unwelcoming home. Working parents cannot handle doubling down as a homeschool teacher in an already crumbling economy. You do get how economics work, right? We can’t just print more money and expect problems to disappear. Schools (in person) HAVE to reopen. For children’s sake. For working parent’s sake. For the future of American. I was using an analogy, sweetie. That's why I brought up the masks. But if you're going to talk about politicians and their response to the coronavirus pandemic, let me remind you that Trump only just started to wear a mask about a week or two ago. We are literally 5 months into the pandemic here in the US, and he's only now just wearing a mask? Come the **** on. Also, I do think it's important to question things, but wearing a mask is common sense. If you're going out, wear a mask. It's not that difficult and it helps saves lives. Better yet, just don't go out unless it's absolutely necessary. It's as simple as that; it's sad that this has become a debate. Also, Rand Paul is anti-mask As for your points: 1.) Children may be statistically not as affected by COVID-19 compared to other age groups, but that doesn't mean that they can't pass it on to someone else who could be more susceptible to the disease. I don't understand why people are forgetting that VERY CRUCIAL element. Just because you, yourself, don't develop symptoms doesn't mean that you don't have it, and that certainly doesn't mean that you can't pass it on to someone else who could show much more severe symptoms. 2.) Those are accidents. If you take the necessary precautions (e.g. like not reopening schools), you can PREVENT many more coronavirus cases. I don't understand what your point is. "Yeah, all these bad things happen, so let's add one more thing in the mix!" Like what? What the **** is that logic? If you can prevent something like a GLOBAL ****ING PANDEMIC, then prevent it. 3.) Those are very valid points, and that, I agree with. Something needs to be done about that, especially if the individual is living in an abusive household. However, if they're living in an abusive household, then the police need to be called and/or child protective services. I don't think reopening schools will fix that. I do get how economics works, and I greatly understand the fact that we need to get the economy back up and running, but we also need to sensible with our decisions. Reopening schools with thousands of children just at one school alone when we're at record-breaking coronavirus cases? I don't think that's the correct solution. KindnessPunk28 1,506
I wish people who are not educators and have no experience with children would keep their god dang mouth shut trying to decide what is or is not best for the kids. It's disgusting so many people in America are willing to let teachers like myself and our kids DIE!!! But it's not surprising, the majority are okay with us being shot dead in a massacre. LGMonster95 13,704
I don't live in US but I want to cry when I hear stupidity like this. First of all, what if those kids are not that healthy overall? You will put them in a much bigger danger and 2nd of all, where do you think those kids will return after school? Yes back home at their parents where they will spread the virus aswell. We can’t just print more money and expect problems to disappear. Schools (in person) HAVE to reopen. For children’s sake. For working parent’s sake. For the future of American. I already posted this in a thread about school reopening, but it still applies: While children are less likely than adults to get the virus when a family member is sick, it doesn't account for the fact that a child will be surrounded by 30 other children rather than a home environment with 4 others. We also have to account for the environment of many schools, where hallways are small and hallways and classrooms can get "wet" because there isn't enough air circulating. Then there's the fact that they will likely all touch a lot of the same things such as doors, computers, etc. While keeping doors open might help with this, it poses a security risk if outside doors are kept open, and there are many other contact points to consider. Returning to a more scientific aspect, many studies from JAMA in COVID and pediatrics focus on information from China. Firstly, we can pretty much all agree that China isn't the most honest about its numbers. Secondly, these numbers are from early infection periods. Thirdly, even if China's information was 100% accurate, a large factor is obesity and China's obesity (5%-6%) is much lower than in the U.S. (39.6% in adults and 18.5% in children). Even JAMA acknowledges that antibody count in children has been found to be low after having the virus, which means that it's possible that children can get the virus multiple times. This has several implications, firstly that it's more opportunities to infect family. Secondly, every time a child contracts the virus, not only will it compromise their immune system to some extent, but there's the possibility of brain damage. And finally, there is a small chance that children who have or even had the virus, will develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome, which causes the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, digestive system, brain, skin, or eyes swell, causing redness and pain. I don't understand how people are so willing to send their children back to school. They are more concerned with the economic pressures of society rather than doing everything possible to keep their child safe. If my child even had the smallest chance of contracting a virus that could get them hospitalized and ventilated in an invasive manner, have them get brain damage, develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome, or death because I neglected to care for them, I would think I failed my child. It just couldn't be me.

"Progressives" don't want to abolish police. Defunding is not the same as abolishing. and your previous comment about the "Tyranny" of masks, lol. Tyranny is using the DHS as your personal federal stormtroopers. Wearing a mask for the good of your neighbor and yourself is not even close to Tyranny. People want to get upset about civil rights violations should consider the near nullification of the 4th ammendment. But right wingers hate the fourth ammendment. So I came up with a well crafted argument against all of your points, and this is the only thing you decide to comment on? Thank you for the lovely thought and input that you put into the conversation. P.S. "Defunding the police" doesn't mean getting rid of the police entirely. It means taking some of the funds OUT OF police institutions and reinvesting it in public transport, schooling, etc. For someone who's apparently really invested in politics, you sure know nothing 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔞𝔴𝔞𝔶 𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔪𝔞𝔰𝔨 𝔞𝔫𝔡...𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔣𝔞𝔠𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔰 𝔪𝔦𝔫𝔢.
