expert warns the US is approaching 'one of the most unstable times in the history of our country' :huntyga::firega: ( Gaga pls it’s time to use a disco stick to get rid of Covid, save all humanity :queenga: )

With rising Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations sending many states backward in their reopening plans, one health expert warns that if the US continues on its current path it will reach "one of the most unstable times in the history of our country."

"We will have hospitals overwhelmed and not only in terms of ICU beds and hospitals -- and that's bad -- but exhausted hospital staff and hospital staff that's getting ill themselves," Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of tropical medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN Friday night. "So, we won't have enough manpower, human power, to manage all of this." :messga:

Only five states are seeing a decrease of at least 10% in average new daily cases over the past week. And the US set a record for the highest single day of new cases for the second time this week with 66,627 cases on Friday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The resurgence has many local leaders returning to actions taken in March and April to slow the spread of the virus.

At least 26 states have paused or rolled back their plans to reopen.

Atlanta's mayor and Georgia's governor are at odds over the mayor's order Friday to send her city back to Phase 1 of its reopening plan. Citing an "alarming" increase in cases, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said residents under this phase should leave the house only for essential trips, and restaurants and retailers must offer only to-go or curbside pickup service.

A record-setting day to end a record-setting week

The US has set records for coronavirus infections and hospitalizations this summer -- and this week has been no different.

Georgia set a record for the number of new cases in one day on Friday with 4,484 new cases, according to the state's department of health. The state's previous record was set on June 26.

Also on Friday, the US reported its highest number of new cases in one day for the second time this week. The previous record for the US was set just one day earlier.

The Louisiana Department of Health reported 2,642 new cases Friday, making it the highest day of new cases since the pandemic began.

California, which has held rank as one of the hardest hit states, continued to set records in coronavirus hospitalization and ICU rates this week, with over 6,000 patients being treated

To think all of this could’ve been avoided, had they acted swiftly and taken the problem seriously... It’s unnerving. At least it’s showing major deficiencies of the American healthcare system (too reliant on the private sector), which might soon lead to reforms for the better.

It’s not the first time the US (Tr*mp and Republicans) treat science as a partisan topic. And this is the direct consequences.

That’s what we get when we have elected officials who treat science as a belief system the way you would religion. The truth is made an enemy of the state. Corporate greed drives decision-making and prioritized over all other issues. These dumbasses in the states where it’s blowing up badly value money more than lives. I don’t feel bad for them at all; they mocked and ridiculed NJ, NY and CT in the beginning and now look at where they are today. That’s karma. Trump and boot-licking lovers want this to go away and sadly it’s not and it won’t.

Factors of failure in many aspects (government’s non-act of treating quarantine seriously- initially, during; fundamental disbeliefs of treating virus seriously; skewed healthcare system; little to no government assistance to those who need it the most; etc).

It is very disheartening.

I wish it didn’t take a nationwide tragedy for us to realize that this country is so far from being #1 at anything, except ignorance. Even then it won’t set in for a LOT of people. But what did we expect when this whole thing is founded genocide, lies and greed from its inception? Where we idolize celebrity criminals and actual monsters just because they share our extremely narrow views... not all of us but you know what I mean.

The US is going back to the dark ages, fear of medicine and science, increased superstition and belief in conspiracy theories and religion over facts. The jingoistic,  xenophobic, nationalist crowd are only making the situation worse as well, by supporting the clown who claims to be for America but is only interested in his own success. Scary times.

Nah, we still have the majority of the country believing were the best in the world for our 'freedoms' while the US trails behind in ranking in every single category.

We just have to be patient and let the foolish weed themselves out I suppose. Imagine a society where a good chunk of the most entitled, most hateful, most selfish people are no longer sitting on the backs of those who actually care about things that matter. We don’t deserve nice things unless they’re accessible to everybody TBH

The United States has enabled stupidity and brainwashed its citizens to think that they're the "best country in the world." It's ****ing ridiculous.

Daylight Jokers

It's honestly so embarrassing how the US Government is handling this pandemic. A first world country acting like this is so messy. It's also not just the government either, it's also the people who refuse to wear masks just cuz they think it's "taking away their rights". Mask it or casket.

I mean, my country's not perfect either (it's far from it actually) and people are stupid as well, but no one here thinks the virus is some propaganda that the liberals just made up.

The fact that they wait to see Trump wears a mask first. It’s too much to understand :saladga:. Instead of listen to health experts :firega:

Trump won’t do that. If he gives in it’ll make him look weak to his fanbase.
