Radio drop it organically. 10 days Before 'My Future' debut ROM was receiving -0.4 updates on pop it happened to other pop girls like Katy. I told everyone on this thread multiple times that it was getting dropped by big stations two weeks before callouts No label wants their artist to flop, they want the best. You can't push a song radio doesn't want and you can't keep a song high on a playlist if the curators don't want (that's more a grey area) In terms of this album, the only hope is to focus on the hit, ROM, and do a Sc MV to give that a boost. SL will not be getting anywhere near 500m streams. This doesn't add up; a song w/ a Top 10 debut on Spotify in '20, #1 debut on BB100 without a Radio deal or signed bundles, etc., and WW receipts does not meet any loose definition of a "flop." Gaga isn't some indie artist or semi-indie act like Halsey; she's an established WW star and major cash-cow for Interscope. A successful song in '20 helps Gaga and Interscope in the short-term, but also long-term as she needs a diverse catalogue of hits to consistently tour, make contracts, support her Residency, etc. Gaga's first 3 albums were nom'd for AOTY Grammys, and she won 5 awards in the last 2 ceremonies. Heavily awarded artists is a major deal for labels, and after earning her highest acclaim to-date, Chromatica was seen as a threat for AOTY/ROTY/Pop during release week. It's nonsense to pretend audience surveys force labels to call up Radio and ask 'Stop playing that #1 song by Gaga. It's making us look bad!' Take a look at big station Playlists and make a graph to correlate callouts if you feel so strongly about the relationship. It isn't there. ROM was a highly requested #1 by 2 superstars, with metrics on every other platform / WW pointing to a hit in need of MORE support, not less. Who cares if updates were negative? "Intentions" had bad callouts and hit #1 w/ negative updates that continued as it stayed Top 10 week after week. Interscope had every incentive to keep ROM on BB100 as long as possible, especially w/ a VMA perf coming and Gaga's history in impacting Charts. A song w/ minimal bleeding on Radio, hovering in the 20s / 30s until would've given it Sales, Certs, Press, a narrative for Grammy campaigning, etc. Having it free-fall out of existence right before the 1st big promo event of the album cycle? Suicidal. SOUR CANDY/NEXT SONG PUSH For the love of God, Sour Candy is NOT a smart move for Gaga / Interscope. It did its job by boosting album week streams, sales, and filling in as a pseudo promo single. If an MV existed, it would've been released by now and yes, it would've elevated streams for a few weeks, but they would've faded just as they have. If another song is pushed from Chromatica, it'll be a solo 1, not a half-Korean song already streamed to death by the fans who'd even be interested in it. Sour Candy is not going to give Chromatica longevity, sell tour tickets, enhance Enigma's next leg, or propel the LG brand. Is that still possible if ROM is out of BB100 by the VMAs? I don't know. But, they're NOT going to waste effort on a song that's been milked for a #33 / whose base is awaiting BLACKPINK's album. ROM (still Top 40) +Babylon/Free Woman/Replay would've been the best move, and probably still is, even if ROM is DOA. She needs to get SOME awareness out there of her solo music. Free Woman (VMAs > Lyric/MV > Push to Radio > Accoustic Remix) rising to 350-450k/day for 2 weeks before falling to 200-250k, is still an incremental boost to album streams and sales not there right now. And, Free Woman will get views from the live show, archived videos, downloads, playlisting, and minimal Radio exposure whether it ends up Charting or not.
