I mean you’re probably right but last time I checked Rihanna was doing Hip-Hop/R&B/Trap infused pop so I’m sure that would fare much better in 2020 compared to ANYTHING on Chromatica anyway?

I still think for being a classic pop song ROM did pretty good in 2020. The top 10 is constantly filled with male Hip-Hop/Rap songs and the pop that is big tends to be by very young new artists such as Billie or Dua so idk why we can’t just celebrate the fact that Gaga still competes with the best of the best.

By the way my point still stands, I don’t see many female artists who are 30+ easily getting Top 10 on songs on pop radio 12 years into their career especially in 2020 with the Rap/Hip-Hop dominated market. It’s just a fact.

I mean maybe? There’s literally no way to know that lol. Why do you think that though, I mean if the “it girl” of pop radio didn’t make the song go Top 5 on pop radio why do you think Rihanna would make it do so?

I don’t think it’s as guaranteed as you do. I mean even ME! and YNTCD had good starts on pop radio but didn’t last long and Taylor is pretty ****ing massive 

I mean if your post is just to **** on Gaga and say radio doesn’t like her, that’s fine, say that, but don’t try and argue my point that females who get older struggle to get radio play. It’s pretty much proven (with a handful of exceptions of course)

ROM might be done, but we can still track Shallow at least (the eternal hit song ).

Do we have an update on UK sales ? Its been a while since i saw some numbers. Is ARUTW close to platinum ? Is Shallow coming for 3x Platinum this fall ? Is there a chance for Sour Candy to go silver in the next 12 months ? So many questions

What’s pink’s excuse? J Lo with On the Floor? Gaga started “declining” on radio in her mid 20s, she went a direction that wasn’t as radio friendly, especially when you had a bunch of 2010 Gaga copy cats. That being said stupid love and rain did well on a top 40 that didn’t even play shallow the biggest song of the year in early 2019(arguably and the song didn’t even get into the top 30). So the fact she did that with a pop dance track is IMPRESSIVE. 
 

Also I wouldn’t want Rihanna on rain on me, the song would probably have been completely different as who here thinks Rihanna would come back with a house dance album? Listen Rihanna is great, but she is known for trend hoping. So I’m grateful for this album tbh, and I lowered my expectations with promo, that way I can enjoy this “era” a bit more.

Honestly the song needed promo, and needed the clubs to stay more “Alive” imo. I actually think and can pick up again if the above happens, but that’s me being optimistic.

No, no. My intent was NOT to drag Stupid Love! I was responding to the latest in a series of attempts to defend the trajectories of SL/ ROM/ Chromatica (that ROM did as well as it could since Radio was always going to be a struggle+KP as an example of how "it could be worse.") It COULD be worse if Gaga had Katy's levels of interest, because SL/ ROM/ Chromatica peaking upon debut before declining shows 1) demand for Gaga/ her music is high, and 2) Gaga is strong across every metric (great Spotify debut, strong YT stats, high sales, #11/#9 Pop Radio).

Daisies will end up ~1 less wk short of Stupid Love on BB100. Considering their debut #s/ the demand for music from each artist, I think it's fair to criticize using Daisies to rationalize the inability of Chromatica (era) to stabilize. KP's team clearly re-strategized and nearly replicated the longevity of a song w/ hype and an AMAZING debut.

TL;DR: Using other artists to justify SL/ROM slipping W-O-W after strong debuts across every metric is not fair or logical. To think any artist can release a song and not pull adjust for declines in sales/ streams/ radio over its course is insane. Had Gaga pivoted the way Katy did, maybe SL wouldn't have left BB100 after 8 wks; ROM wouldn't have been affected by ACR (UK) / on its way out due to a decline in 1 metric (US Radio) after 9 wks.

Is it not obvious that a Charts thread on GGD might be filled w/ discussion on how SL/ ROM/ Chromatica all had strong debuts AND downward trajectories in the weeks after? There's *nothing* to substantiate statements that Gaga's age, gender, etc. were detrimental to the project's success and saying so means the debuts for SL/ ROM/ Chromatica were flukes and NOT a result of rebuilding her WW perception. Gaga had no issues competing against Hip-Hop, Rap, Billie, or Dua post-release. Her debut on Spotify was bigger than Dua's / close to Billie's, and LG rose #50-#6 as an artist in June. AM (Hip-Hop oriented platform) was filled w/ Chromatica. 

We shouldn't celebrate ROM, a #1 debut WW w/ amazing streaming, pure sales, and even Pop Radio imp, falling W-O-W in the UK (entered ACR) / US (on its way out) after only 9 wks. We shouldn't celebrate album cuts off Chromatica (#1 WW debut/top 6 debut week on Spotify) pulling < 100k after 2mo, when LG's hits from 09/10 (a decade before put on the platform) get 400% more. 

No performance indicator on *any* platform indicated a lack of interest in Gaga when Chromatica, SL, or ROM debuted. The era's performance has nothing to do w/ her: gender, age, genre of music, fans' use/non-use of a platform, or anything else. It can't get any clearer that the problem isn't (lack of) demand for Gaga('s music); it's her inability to promote this project and build/sustain awareness or interest. These weren't songs/an album that showed signs of doing "good." They showed signs of doing amazing(ly).

#10- Rain on Me , pretty meh across the metrics but we've pushed Katy's song down, and we're outperforming it in all metrics.

Pop Callouts:

#16- Rain on Me , the songs potential increased and the burnout rate got better! we decreased in everything else though (but only tiny drops.)
