Yeah people here need to realize she's 30+ year old female competing for pop radio airplay, we should honestly be lucky that ROM even went top 10 on pop radio, it was her best performance on that chart in the last like 8 years. I'll say it again, if we didn't get a radio smash with ROM w/Ariana it just ain't ever gonna happen again. Some people here still haven't adjusted their expectations and they still expect the same radio airplay from 2009-2011, it's a different time. Look at Katy, one of the biggest radio artists of the 2010's not even being able to go like top 65 on radio. We could honestly have it way worse

Some people here still haven't adjusted their expectations and they still expect the same radio airplay from 2009-2011, it's a different time. Look at Katy, one of the biggest radio artists of the 2010's not even being able to go like top 65 on radio. This recurrent theme of "adjusting expectations" with regards to Gaga and Chromatica's performance is not only misguided, but also actually undermines Gaga's demand as a celebrity and Chromatica's debut performance numbers. Lady Gaga is a WW superstar, whose latest project was released to: #5 lead single, #1 second single, #1 album, Top 10 debut on Spotify, 79 MC (highest yet), ~300k sales in a pandemic, and both singles eventually reached #11 / #9 on US Pop Radio. Any time we criticize her or her team for the trajectory since, there is always an excuse: "she's streaming poison!" or "COVID impacted her promo efforts!" or "promo is dead / has no impact in 2020!" or "Pop Radio doesn't play 30-year old Pop acts!" NONE of these hold any water, and constantly bringing up other artists to justify them does the exact opposite. Why do "we" need to adjust any expectations out of Lady Gaga, Interscope, or Chromatica based on anything related to Katy Perry? Gaga released the lead single for Chromatica at age 33, 1 year after 'Shallow', the most-awarded song in history, hit #1 on the Hot 100 during the ASIB era which enabled her to reach a new level of WW success. 1. Katy was ~33 years old when she released 'Chained To The Rhythm' in 2017, ~3 years after her last hit; it reached #4 on the Hot 100, Charted for 15 weeks, and was a Top 10 on US Pop/BB Radio Songs. 2. Katy was ~35 years old when 'Con Calm,' 'Never Really Over', and 'Feels' were released in 2019, after Witness underwhelmed in 2017 and during a period of unattached singles; all 3 reached the Top 20 of BB Radio Songs; NRO reached #15 on the Hot 100 (12 wks total). 3. Katy was ~36 years old when she released 'Daisies' in 2020, now 6+ years out from her last successful era and a series of "flops;" it peaked at #40 on the BB Hot 100 (7 wks total; possibly 8 after the album drops). All this tells me is that despite a huge drop in demand, based on many factors including the underperformance of both her last true era and this latest series of singles, Katy and her label have been able to pivot and adjust their strategies to ensure that many of her songs end up with moderate levels of long-term success. 'Daisies' had mediocre performance across all channels, yet spent just 2 fewer weeks on the Hot 100 than 'Stupid Love' did with the ASIB hype, a massive MV (in comparison to 'Daisies' views), #11 Pop Radio peak, etc. Regardless of the fact that Katy still achieved respectable Radio peaks well into her 30s (top 20 peaks for nearly 10 songs since turning 30), who cares when she and her team focused on other promo tactics so that a drop in audience impressions over a week didn't equal a disaster? At the end of the day, we are only talking about Pop Radio right now because it is literally the last metric that was holding Rain On Me above water; if Katy's team had a debut like ROM, you can bet it would've been inescapable. We have already gone through the "well, she's streaming poison!" period of defense for ROM, despite Chromatica having a debut week on par with all current streaming-era artists. We have already gone the "but, COVID!" period of defense, despite Dua Lipa releasing multiple promoted hits during the same timeframe. Radio is all that is left. We don't need to adjust our expectations; others need to quit the delusions.
