Gimme More 35,802
"Although many countries have made some progress, globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a virtual news conference. The virus has infected more than 10.1 million people around the world and killed at least 502,634 people, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. ”We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives, but the hard reality is that this is not even close to being over." As cases in the U.S. have continued to increase, the average age of patients has declined, according to state officials in Florida, Texas and elsewhere. Some state officials say that's why Covid-19 deaths have dropped even as cases surge since the virus is more fatal in older populations. However, several health officials, including White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, have warned that deaths will increase over time, especially as younger patients infect older and more vulnerable people. "The worst is yet to come" as many nations and world leaders remain divided on how to combat the virus, Tedros said. "I'm sorry to say that, but with this kind of environment and condition, we fear the worst. And that's why we have to bring our acts together and fight this dangerous virus together." https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/29/who-warns-coronavirus-pandemic-is-speeding-up-as-countries-ease-lockdown-rules.html

Roboboy 3,874
I know i'm not a global health specialist, but that seems pretty fantastical? It's already slowing down in lots of countries, so 'far from over' seems a bit strange. And honestly I don't trust anybody at this point, except data. But who knows

PrinceGaga 7,644
There are really only a handful of countries that have the virus under control - I.e no community transmission. If countries are returning to normal now then they can expect second waves. That’s probably what they’re referring to
Mister G 10,513
Well from a US perspective, there’s no 2nd wave coming considering we haven’t even finished going through the 1st (paging Texas, Arizona, California and Florida).

In the Emirates the cases have slowed down drastically and hospitals are slowly clearing out their cases. There are still active cases every day but for the most part it's not what it was months ago. But our neighbors like Saudi Arabia, Iran etc. are having more and more cases every day. So for them, Brazil, the US etc. it's significantly getting worse. Hopefully a second wave doesn't hit as harshly.
