Your First Gaga Memory

What do you remember about your first time ever seeing Gaga?
 

For me, I was 12 years old and staying the summer of 2008 at my grandparents’ house with my cousins. We were watching So You Think You Can Dance in the kitchen and it was her performance of Just Dance. Cat announced the next performance by someone named “Lady Gaga.” My cousins and I laughed because it was just such an unexpected name. And then she performed. I was young and hadn’t come to terms with being gay, but I just knew this was someone I was intrigued by for some reason. The music, the dance, the aesthetic. I was obsessed with Gwen Stefani (LAMB, Sweet Escape) at this point so it was only natural that Gaga would interest me. I’ll never forget that day and it might seem silly but I’m so happy that I can say I’ve been there since the “beginning” with one of her first ever big performances.

First time ever was when pokerface was playing nonstop on the radio. My earliest memory of falling in love with her was after the Paparazzi video came out and I was IN LOVE with it, and started watching interviews of her and realized she was so much more than the persona that people were used to. She wasn't a vapid pop girl, she was a rockstar.

The first time I heard poker face was when she did it live on American Idol and started it with the piano. I was SHOOK before I even knew what that meant

Late 2008, I was seven, my older sister stumbled upon the Poker Face music video on the TV. She told me this was the new singer her classmates were talking about in school. Got hooked since then

It was 2009, I was around nine years old and me and my cousins used to buy these pirated CDs that were compilations of popular or recent pop music videos at the time. The same CD had Pussycat Dolls’ Jai Ho and Don’t Cha, OneRepublic’s Apologize (I think) and Gaga’s Poker Face and a lot more that I can’t remember. Poker Face was my favorite to watch, she just looked so alien with her looks and style. I even thought she was Asian or something because of how tiny her eyes looked with her low cut bangs.

 

And then, a little monster was born

I remember seeing her on the rolling stone magazine (the pink bubble cover) I read it and I became obsessed and then I realized she was the woman who sang Just dance and Pokerface, I heard the songs before and thought they were different singers, singing them lmao, I was 12 @ the time and it was 2009. I first heard the songs on the school bus radio!

Right before Gaga came to India, she was interviewed on a popular Indian talk show. I remember watching this on T.V. and immediately falling in love with her

I remember the first time hearing Paparazzi and thinking it might be Gwen Stefani
