"refuses sponsorship opportunities, as she sits in her mansion"... hmmm..The video of her "quitting youtube" is going to get tons of views, hence how she will cash in on it

She's worked hard for that house. She's been on Youtube for more than a decade and kept producing content after content that for many including me, made their day a whole lot better. Unlike some other celebrities who literally do nothing to justify their wealth, are you gonna criticize Jenna for working hard to getting where she is today? She could have had millions more in sponsorship deals but she didn't want it. You put anyone else in her position they would accept those deals in a heartbeat. I don't understand where your scrutiny comes from.

I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.

I'm sorry... but to those complaining about "cancel culture"... who was even out here trying to cancel Jenna Marbles?!

Like I literally saw nothing about this. Idk. I'm not saying she's lying about the reason she's leaving YT, but I think she could've chosen to ignore the hate or just simply apologize for her very minimal transgressions.

The biggest overreaction in this whole situation seems to be on HER part.

I'm quoting myself because I really am that bitch and I just actually watched her whole video. Background on me is that I love Jenna Marbles. I've watched her religiously for close to a decade.

This video disappointed me immensely.

For those that did not watch, it is an 11:00 minute video in which she quits youtube. She has over 20 million subscribers and has been on the platform for >10 years. In the last minute of the video, she quit Youtube indefinitely.

She spent a just over two minutes apologizing for two racially insensitive videos she made year ago that people online expressed grievances with. She spent the rest of the video apologizing for different videos that she says no one took offense to but were weighting on her chest.

I'm sorry, but this is literally so cringey. Like I said, no one was really even coming for her on a massive scale and then she gets so upset she quits the platform she helped pioneer. Something isn't adding up to me.

Like why not just accept you think you messed up in the past and then move on? Demonstrate that you're going to do better if you really care about doing better? Seriously I hope that she doesn't want me to feel bad for her after watching this.

He's not criticizing her for working hard at all?

He's saying that she is taking this random opportunity to quit youtube and cash out. Like, most rational people would not think this is a situation worth retiring over I feel. This wasn't a big deal, she just made it out to be.

This is what Gaga did in 2009, remember how dark her tan was back in her V shoot? Jenna's wasn't even nearly as dark as Gaga's tan was.

I'd like to think Gaga was going for a ganguro look, a Japanese street fashion where girls combine really tanned skin with blonde hair (usually a bright blonde) and black dresses. It's very inspired by Paris Hilton and similar girls.

Ganguro isn't as popular as it used to be, but I think it still has a pretty good following since unlike most J-fashions it's easier to incorporate fast fashion.

What the hell, literally nothing can satisfy you all. I hate the world I live in with these hypocritical people all around that counts how many minutes someone apologizes and acts like they’re somehow better than that person itself. Like what the hell she did apologize for that fish because she felt uneducated about the situation. Now she feels heartbroken and devastated and you only think about “minutes”? When she’s like 10x times more unproblematic than any other youtuber? Can’t you see how disgusting that is for you to do? She haven’t built her make up line, she doesn’t even promote her merch and some of you say that she decided that a single video that I guarantee, after a week or so, will be deleted from the platform, is just for milking something? Do yall think that people can’t reach a certain point in their career where they can’t even talk to the camera because of how bad they feel? Or maybe you all are those that only can think about money, minutes, material stuff, etc. and that’s why you make such a statement. If I was her I’d quit social media after reading something you wrote right away.

I literally just gasped! I've been watching her for 9 years too and supporting her along the way and I can't believe it's happening so suddenly. I haven't even watched the video yet because I am so saddened :ohno:

Tbh though I could feel her passion for her channel slowly fading out the past year or two, but she has always kept it light and fun for the viewers :toofunny:  she's such a wonderful person, so obviously I wish her nothing but the best.

I hope this decision makes her happier than ever, and we see her pop up online from time to time. Otherwise when people like her quit their channels suddenly it kind of feels like a dear friend has died :ohno:

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Don't forget she is the only YouTuber to have never monetised her videos with ads.

Anyone who follows here knows she is not the person she was anymore, sad it has come to this. But I am sure she will return, just don't know when. She herself seems unsure by saying " for now or forever, idk"

I could see this coming because she's a white woman whose been on youtube for over a decade, and initially had that ~edgy type of attitude/humor that was popular on the internet back then. A lot of internet personalities are being called out over their old posts from back then.

I don't feel sorry for her. She'll likely just come back after a while like pretty much every youtuber that's done a "I'm leaving youtube" video. She's going to be fine. I don't get why anyone would worry about her? You all should know by now that cancel culture doesn't really do much. Someone said it's more about accountibility.

Cancel culture is so toxic and just hateful. All it does is spread negativity.

I will say that I do think she will be back in time, but will lay low for a bit because of all of this. I think she will make a return to youtube or something in the near future. Meanwhile, Trisha refuses to be cancelled and is in a Burger King drive-thru filming her newest video as we speak lmao.

I watched the video and I am so angry and saddened by this.

What people need to STOP doing in 2020 is judging people off shallow appearances and start judging peoples INTENTIONS. Judging people as a WHOLE person for who they are NOW, and realising that we can all make mistakes, that we aren't all 100% educated in every single social matter, that as times change we all change as people.

Back in 2011 things like race and gender issues weren't even a thing . Nobody knew what transgender meant, nobody knew that jokes about different cultures were harmful, NOBODY KNEW . Even the sweetest, kindest, most caring, well intentioned person would partake in these behaviours without even having a single idea that what they were doing could hurt someone, because we were literally oblivious. Everyone was the same, it's all we saw, it's all we knew. But people change . We have grown with the socio-political movements that have happened in the past 10 years for peoples' rights. The only people who should be judged for their past, are those who have refused to change with the education provided to the masses about these subjects over the past 10 years. It's all contextual.

The problem is that content exists on the internet without a timestamp. Something from 10 years ago is as relevant to judgemental people as something from today, which is NOT fair. Jenna has always been the most well-intentioned person, and for that she deserves a lot of credit and love.

Jenna doesn't deserve this. Seeing her try not to cry makes me want to cry with her. I'll miss her.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I think it’s probably best for her health to take a break. Perhaps she can focus more on herself and her physical and mental wellbeing for the immediate future, find some new hobbies, etc. and then come back in some capacity a few years from now? I don’t imagine she’s in need of money so she can take some time away. Maybe she’ll host a game show or something in the future
