RAMROD 109,618
Fam, back in the day, magazines, radio, and TV were the kings. And yes you can get overexposed too. You will hear Baby One More Time, Sometimes, and Oops! every 15-30 minutes, if not every hour. And her face will be plastered all over the magazines. Back in the 90s there were a lot magazines that were meant for teens, such as Smash Hits. From these magazines, would you get a huge sized posters and pin ups of your faves. That you can collect or put on your wall. And imagine you had this for weeks on end, you will get sick soon enough. I know I have my fair share of getting sick over some songs, such as Usher's YEAH!, like, I really loathe that song the way y'all hating on Despacito now just because that song was on hot list for so long and I am so sick hearing it again and again and again. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ dancin' until i'm dead (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
Mister Gaga 22,923
Britney was not only the biggest performer, she was the biggest celebrity in the world for 5 years straight. Her peak is up there with Michael and Madonna

ShayCristoforo 10,607
Britney was everywhere. She wasn't just MTV or cable or tabloids. She was present in virtually all types of marketing mediums. And that's why her legacy is so large and iconic. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.
AlexanderMagno 10,746
It depresses me that young people now think that 15 years ago the world was a dull place. Honestly, this might shock you, but back then it was exactly the same as today. Different media, same feeling.

You’re right, deals with Pepsi, Sketchers, Herbal Essence, perfume line (which is still majorly successful). Those Pepsi commercials were huge - plus her appearance with Aerosmith at the Super Bowl....the list goes on.

This!.. Im from south Africa.. During her peak she was the most talked about person in the country and everywhere in the media yet she has never set foot here. I don't think any artist had such a frenzie around them.(beside MJ)... Gaga came in close to Britney.
Guest
I live in the Middle East with no MTV or American cable. But I was the biggest Britney Spears fan. And everyone in my school knew who she was. I checked fansites and forums to download everything without youtube. We would share CD's and videos with each other. I would buy rare items like DVD and singles when I travel or I know someone traveling.
KeepItCool 140
Britney was the last pop star to receive this type of marketing treatment.

Gaga is the only female pop star to get my attention since Britney Spears. Sure I love the legends but as far as new pop stars go, I’m only really interested in Gaga. Brecht 7
Aren't you the person that keeps posting Britney playing 4 notes on a piano to prove she's the greatest songwriter of all times? Now you're downplaying her success? Why? So other people would say good things about her?

I love Toxic but how you describe Britney's peak sounds a lot like Justin (a few years ago) Taylor and Billie now! So to say that no newer popstars were as big as her sounds a little questionable. Ok lemme timeout on this direction right now. You cannot just say the impact of one generations icon was more than another. You will.he going around in circles bc neither one of You experienced it the same. You have to explain the landscape at said time and exemplify it the terms like the OP was asking about....
