Stephen Gan (Editor at V Mag) accused of being racist

I couldn't find a lot on the story, but Stephen Gan (editor at V Magazine) have been accused of being racist from employees and models. He has been fired from Elle but denies this and is still working at V. I don't think Gaga would work with V/him at all anymore, i think she'll distance her self from the magazine now after having a close relationship after all these years.

Stephen Gan denies that he’s been fired from Elle — regardless of what WWD says.

The fashion news outlet reported that Gan’s “on his way out” as creative director of Elle after he was accused of making racist and sexist remarks while he was working for V magazine, where he is editor-in-chief and creative director.

But he insisted to Page Six on Wednesday, “I am still at Hearst, serving as creative director of Elle, and currently working on the September issue.” He blamed “vicious rumors that say otherwise.”

He’s also still at his job at V. The news comes after fashion watchdog Diet Prada posted accusations of Gan’s alleged racial insensitivity and misogyny at V. Gan wrote on V’s Instagram page, “If there have been occasions where I inadvertently made anyone feel unworthy, I apologize for that.”

Here is the link to the accusations on Instagram.

It’s 2020 and people just now realizing that so many industries and the people at the top are racist. :billie: well, better late than never I guess.

This is like a week old and has already been discussed.

Be careful, you're gonna get a WP if you don't post the link

I don't really care. Someone posted this same thread when Diet Prada exposed him last week and he has already apologized. Don't need to bring it up again.

That's pretty upsetting... He's a very good friend of Gaga's, she must be tired of all those people around her ending up being total creeps.

This ! It’s funny how certain people can think they can get away with things because there in power. Good luck getting anyone to cover/work for your magazine now !

I know, I feel sad for Gaga as I know certain people will attack her for this. It feels like in the fashion industry there is nobody left due to people revealing there true colours. Terry Richardson, Mario Testino, Bruce Weber, Patrick Delimacher etc...

he already apologized and gave his side of story but there's nothing worthy of discussion really

I don’t think any sort of apology will help him at all now, as we all know numerous celebs have had there reputation/career ended due to comments and situations these past few weeks and cancel culture is stronger than ever.

I just feel like Gan’s apology is too calculated. If accounts were true, they go more than being unintentional.

He’s a rich kid from the Philippines who made it big. He worked hard for his magazine, but I believe it would be fair to say that with his privileged background, it’s possible that he might not be in the frontline of discrimination.

It’s sad because I looked up to him. I want to be in that industry, as some who’s Filipino too. These past few months however showed me that many people in fashion, even those who seem to champion for equality and diversity could be so elitist and close-minded.

It seems like you can’t be a person of power and be nice... It’s a bit discouraging.
