Cherry Blues 349
Just now, Massive Monster said: EXACTLY ! Perfect use of the word lascivious which I would have never thought of. Yeah the structure of the song produces this jazzy lascivious and playful atmosphere which fits well with the disco sound 💓

I didn't say Replay was swing, but to me (and others on this thread) it has a swing influence: If I had to compare to something more recent I'd say Electro Swing. It's all in that rich beat drop section which has a hauntingly low quality brassy synth in the forefront. Which is the most important part/hook of the song and it's introduced slowly in the "I don't know what to do..." It's like a repeated sample from an old record or something played through a gramophone. I'm not saying it is a old record sample but that I feel it's the sound they were going for. Also the vinyl rewinds/ stops are very Electro Swing when mixed with that instrumentation. A swung rhythm requires a swung 8th note, which is just a triplet 8th divided into a quarter and eighth note. I wasn't clear on that. It doesn't really have a swing feel imo, the rhythm is very straight forward
LilMonst3r 5,546
Spoiler This was supposed to be posted 2 days ago I just never posted it and left the tab open. I'm not saying Replay IS 30s/40s jazz music, but especially what's going on in the beat drop is very jazz dance with a pop spin on it. Tell me what instruments do you hear in the beat drop ? I totally see what you mean. I thought jazz too when hearing the beat drop.

Miky 9,520
To me, it's the chords that intrigue me a lot. They are quite unusual for a pop song, I think. Too many people here with moral superiority complex.
MOT 3,196
I'm hearing Sophie Ellis-Bextor. That's about as technical as I get.
Killa 17,727
I think i understand where youre coming from. But lets pause a second. Does it feel swingy. Its probably using a blues scale, just by listening i cant really be sure. But to feel swing it needed at least a bit more syncopation. Like a little pause and antecipation from 3rd beat of the drop would give that effect. But yeah, its nthing of the sort
Yxilon 5,248
That is actually very neat. I would call Replay an acid-jazz influenced electropop with a tinge of psychedelia-rock. Everything could be everything (it could mean anything)
