Trump wants two-term limit repealed

Didn’t one of the presidents in the 1800s serve three terms? Anyways, I don’t think it’ll happen. The Supreme Court has to agree, not just Congress.

Actually FDR served four terms; winning 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944 elections (though he died in 1945)

does this moron think he's going to live forever? one great comfort in life is when i remember that the average lifespan of American men is 78.

U forget that the life expectancy of the wealthy is like 7 or 8 years longer tho :triggered:

President Biden

Ridiculous but dont be concerned

He has no chance of that happening.

1. Biden currently is predicted to win

2. Even if Trump does win again, he will need a 2/3rds majority of both chambers + the states to pass such an amendment. The House is Democrat controlled so it’d fail on arrival there. Even if we performed terribly in 2020, it is unlikely Republicans would take enough Senate seats to pass is there either. And last, it would take years to pass the states & many state legislatures are now back in Dem hands so again, very unlikely.

In conclusion, not going to happen.

Makes me wonder how the two-term rule came to be? Was it a post-WW2 decision? Sounds like. Something from the McCarthy era. I’m not precisely for or against it, it’s just weird because my country doesn’t have any term limit for Prime Ministers and I don’t think any other country does either. I don’t think any country has it except the US.

No. Just 2/3rds of both Congress chambers + 2/3rds of states. It’d be am amendment.

But yes, literally never happening. Trump would need the worlds biggest GOP landslide in November to even put it on the table. And even then, many Republicans would vote No. Many of them equally want him gone & don’t want him to even have the chance to run again

Ain't no amount of wealth gonna save a nearly 300lb 74 year old man who stays up all night, eats only fast food, and gets so little exercise that he can't even walk down a shallow ramp without almost falling :messga:

It was passed in 1947. Yes my country, and most of the EU also does not have term limits. Which makes sense tbh, if someone is doing a good enough job for people to continue voting for them, I don't see how thats a "dictatorship"

Trump can try to run for a 3rd term, but its up to the public if he will serve a 3rd term.

Funny how American touts itself as the "most democratic democracy" bc of term limits, yet still relies on an electoral college...smh

I get it. Biden policy wise may not be the level of change or progressivism many on the left want especially with things like healthcare and education

But lukewarm status quo reversal vs dangerous pathological lying dictator

Seems like a no brainer to me

As for sexual allegations. If even half of them are true he's a crappy man I get it. So is Trump that has even more allegations. But if u only have 2 choices it's more important how they are going to run policies in Government in a Country of 330 Million people than whether or not as an individual he's a crappy person (to which by that measure Trump is still more crappy)

You're thinking of Cleveland I'm sure, but he didn't serve three terms (just two non-consecutive). Your understanding of the process by which a two-term limit could be repealed is also badly flawed: the process would have to look like*:

1. Congress passes a Constitutional Amendment to repeal the 22nd Amendment by a 2/3 vote in each chamber

2. 3/4 of state legislatures ratify the amendment

*it's also a possibility that a convention of the states could be called, but that is at least in my estimation a virtual impossibility and to my knowledge has never occurred before

I see 1 benefit of the limit and that is that power tends to corrupt over time so a term limit can help put a brake on that to some degree or another

But I think there's more downsides than up sides for sure tho. If someone is doing a great job they can't continue and ud think if a country is a legitimate democracy than anyone that does that poorly shouldn't get re-elected over and over again
