The Great Depression occurred bc at the time, the federal govt couldn’t stimulate the economy (still gold standard). It was halfway thru the GD, the gold standard was partially severed. I agree that it’s improbable. But that just makes it’s potential impact even more devastating. Comparing disasters is statistically not sound, they tend to be uncorrelated. But at the same time, the absence of a disaster the scale of the GD, only increases it’s probability. For example, if an event happens on average once-in-a-century and it’s alread been 90 years, then there is increasing chance of it happening. I guess my viewpoint is abstract/epistemological, as it comes from the mathematical statistical properties of time/ensemble averages in ergodic processes. I believe that instead of another deep recession, we'll see a U shaped recovery, but a very different corporate world after the fact. Countries (aside from the US, so far) are bailing out their corporations, but they are doing so in exchange for (sometimes majority) stakes in public companies. I think the 20s and 30s will be similar to the economy of the 60s and 70s (pre-Regan and Thatcher), where many services and good were regulated by the government (airports, airlines being the biggest). I don't think this is a bad thing for the consumer, as it will (hopefully) mean safer, more comfortable services provided.

People power should be in everyone’s hands, not just the men with guns (politicians/defence) or with chains (bankers/executives). Hope you’re right sis Freedom and equality can coexist with peace and prosperity
