COOOK 76,406
I wanted to ask fellow gaymers if the Digital Edition is worth to buy, or is it safer to buy the standard, just in case? We've yet to know more details about both versions (there's more events planned throughout the Summer), but a year ago two friends of mine had the discussion of buying PS4 games online. One said that the online store had good discounts and it was easier having all the games handy, but he had some buggy problems with his digital version of RDR2. The other one defended sticking to the classic use, you may never know if the digital versions are that reliable (but he also had some problems with the CD's). I myself am very careful with my CD's and never had any problems with my PS2 and Nintendo GameCube (yes I'm left behind, sue me) but it looks like having bug problems today is inescapable. Also, the ones who are planning to buy the PS5, which of the versions are you choosing? I'm assuming the Digital Edition's price will be lower... Tycho 3,694
I'll probably get the version with the disc drive so I can still play DVD's and Blu-ray's as well.
Head Empty 25,071
This last generation has swayed me towards digital. No problems with broken cases (which happened multiple times on delivery), no constant switching if discs, and immediately having the games when they're released. And I personally haven't experienced any bugs so far. The only downside in my experience is that digital games tend to be more expensive if they aren't on sale. Pricedrops seem to happen more often for physical copies. And even though I never actually do it, you lose the possibility of reselling games after you're done with them. So for PS5 I'm leaning towards the digital version, because it'll probably have more storage space for a lower price point. Although I prefer the design with the disc drive. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺

This is something to consider. Now most games require large downloads anyways so getting CDs is pretty useless for that reason. The bug thing you mentioned is probably a port issue in general, the code should be the same between CD and digital unless it's a program boot issue. Reselling and swapping games with friends can become an issue with digital also. Also getting one with a disc drive allows for more places to have sales, otherwise you'd have to wait for PlayStation Store to have a sale.
Itsbrenda 2,983
I have always been a fan of physical but this gen I’m going digital (starting early with TLOU2 and Ghost). i only buy PlayStation Studios games new and never sell them so I don’t mind paying full whack. Everything else get discounted in a few weeks/months which is when I usually pick this stuff up. edit: also, most games need a day 1 patch and get patches so after after the disk is actually useless. also, it’s a minor thing but I feel any contribution to lessening the production of plastic is good. I stopped blu-rays 2 years ago and just buy everything on Apple TV. I feel like I kinda want to do the same thing and just store the games on a bus SSD doesn’t he road. RAMROD 109,298
I am going for disc drive. It is not even a debate for me Everything is fun and game for y'all until the PSN servers down, and it had happened before. I just wanna have back up plan. The world just not ready for fully digital world just yet, the infrastructure just not sufficient just yet. Knife 6,869
I'm buying the standard PS5 with the disc drive. I don't think I'm fully ready to embrace an all-digital console even though that seems very much like where we're headed in the future.

This reminded me that I forgot to mention these two friends have both a secondhand PS4, so maybe there's the reason... whereas having the game immediately when it's released is a plus for me but then I'll probably miss the excitement of going to the store and the unpacking of the case idk Design-wise, I like it sleek and minimal and the disc drive is just there... I know this time reselling games won't happen to me; I sold a lot of GC games and I still regret it

elijahfan 26,064
I'm a material girl, I like having my games in cases. Also, it's good to let people the choice and not limit yourselves to digital only. It's low-key giving me iPhone 10 with no jack vibes.
TheMiddleGround 3,251
Even tough the Ps store has good discounts a few times a year, I mostly find that physical copies are cheaper refurbished. That alone is reason enough for me to not buy the digital edition. example: Assassins Creed 4: €15,- digital Assassins Creed 4: €6,- refurbished

GODXES 10
I have a few friends who are also big gamers, so we're all probably gonna buy the disc version so we can continue to trade games.

Yeah I’m a digital games person, but my films are all 4k Blu Rays. Already have a player but the idea of having a player within my PS5 (and selling the one I have) is leaning me towards physical. May change my mind later though.
