BruceWayneOnMe 652
https://headlineplanet.com/home/2020/06/09/britney-spears-mood-ring-debuts-on-billboard-bubbling-under-hot-100-chart/ Mood Ring debuted #23 on billboard BUBBLING UNDER chart after beating ROM for MANY days on iTunes US. The panic some of the users showed made me certain britney would go top 40 at least. Right? I mean topping iTunes must mean something to warrant such hysteria. Lol but it means sh*t in the current streaming era. So we should maybe divert the attention from celebrating #1 in iTunes in 4000 countries to something that's actually relevant. TLDR= iTunes means ****, stop celebrating it. Focus on Spotify and AM please.

Roland 261
YESSS. HA! People don't realise how little sales iTunes represents these days! It's not 2010 anymore!
ToxicHot 6,444
No, I don’t think so.... Not entirely. iTunes still plays a role, definitely, but a chart position depends on a wide variety of other factors. Was the song just not promoted enough? Obviously it’s safe to assume there was no radio support. I suppose it’s still an achievement. The GP just doesn’t buy music digitally much anymore (I, however, still use the iTunes Store). dOnT sAd ReAcT mE 2 bE sHaDy i WiLL RePoRt U!!1! BlondeQueenOfGGD 25,454
No shade but you know #1’s on iTunes are irrelevant when even Lil Kim can get several music videos in the Top
Reject False Icons 4,751
No, we should celebrate them but inside the fandom. Anyone can tell iTunes is a fading platform and of course any #1 on it won’t make much of a difference in a big chart like the BB100, but at the same time iTunes low numbers make it easy for fandoms to see a result of their effort and organization when they do a celebration for a certain album/song. even though some toxic fans twist it and believe they are blocking Gaga m
ssslyboy 3,273
Shallow says hi. If it's a far enough lead and it's maintained over the course of a week, then it most certainly is relevant, especially if its overall performance on other metrics brings it close to a milestone like top 10, top 5 and (especially) #1. That's just charts thresd when anyone else releases But to see them so pressed over a bonus britney track, kinda showed that all the discussions about iTunes were meaningless... and we shouldn't really care how Gaga's songs are doing on that platform sans first week or after big promo spot Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

Juniper 960
Being no.1 on iTunes just feels like a promo spot these days. It’s exposure and looks good. I mean if a label want their artist’s song to top iTunes they can buy the single themselves. Half the money invested goes back to them anyway and it’s such a small amount needed nowadays to top any iTunes chart. It’s not like a few years ago when topping the iTunes chart meant you sold 170k singles. (Note, I’m not saying they all do but I read an article about it a few years ago where it literally said “if no one else is buying your single, do it yourself” as a suggestion to create hype around yourself.)
