Great threads lately on GGD, it's fun reading our comparisons of Chromatica to Gaga's other ventures :kara:

*Let me start by saying ARTPOP is like my 2nd most played Gaga album and this is no shade intended*

Gaga stated she wouldn't let a producer use autotune on her vocals again. The electronic vocal effects on Chromatica are obviously different than the ones on ARTPOP. You can hear Gaga so clearly and her voice sounds so strong. Versus on ARTPOP where even her singing voice during verses would sometimes be slightly autotuned.

IMO Chromatica uses it minimally and it's not overdone. When it is used, it's clear that it's not being used to correct her phenomenal vocals :trollga:

The best examples of this is best represented:

Which do you prefer overall, or which sounds better to you? Why?

I've always thought that the autotune on the ARTPOP songs made Gaga's voice sound lifeless. When Gaga debuted songs at the Swinefest, there was so much passion and happiness in her voice, but on the studio versions she just sounds empty inside.
So I prefer Chromatica :flutter:

Chromatica has some songs that have a lot of autotune. Look at 911. ARTPOP's autotune was also minimal. It was almost always an artistic choice and her ARTPOP vocals are very strong.

And I'm sure she used pitch correction. She used pitch correction even on Joanne - you can hear its artifacts on Million Reasons among others. :) Not always a bad thing. Stupid Love has one very weird note that she never corrected, so who knows?

Woohoo

chromatica because 911’s chorus is an eargasm

"I heard if you record Gaga snoring and play it backward it sounds like an act. 2 unreleased."

Technically speaking, doesn't Chromatica rather use vocoder effects? Thats very different from autotuning and has a different intention as well.

Chromatica...the auto tune and robotic vocals were done much better on this album

We should really be differencing AutoTune, Vocoders, Melodyne or other effects. Chromatica has more Melodyne and effects than AutoTune.

that is far more to do with vocal delivery, if you listen to studio gaga vocals with and without autotune 99% of the time the only difference is hitting the perfect note, vocal delivery and "life" is exactly the same. I feel the same about Million Reasons studio vs live performance but it's strictly down to how she chooses to sing it.

Sorry but 911 is her most autotuned output since something on Born This Way.
Then again. I don't think what we're hearing is autotune on Gaga's voice. Doesn't sound like "The Cher Effect", probably just some vocal effect

That is true in every case except for the example I used imo (swinefest vs ARTPOP studio versions)

Take a look at the Swinefest then listen to the studio versions
ARTPOP live, she has a lot of warmth and passion in her voice, giving a lot of charm to the song, but on the studio version her voice is so autotuned that she sounds straight up robotic having no emotions, or like she didn't even want to sing
MANiCURE live, her vocals are raw/shouty/loud, on the studio version her voice is a bit raspy but because of the autotune it sounds weird. Who even put so much autotune on a pop rock song?
Aura live, her vocals during the verses were very shouty and raspy, but on the studio version the verses are very close to being spoken, not sung, and once again her vocals are so autotuned that she sounds robotic
And again the same about Sex Dreams' verses
