ive always rly hated album artwork having large blocky letters for the most part (though there are many examples where it looks good such as on ARTPOP)

MADONNA_MADAME-X_2019-786x786.jpg

the "madonna" in black doesn't look good against her eyebrows, and blends in too much, and having it a different font throws me off a bit. it would look better if she had of left out the "madonna" type, and just have the madame x stitching over her lips.

(full disclosure i love both of these records)

i honestly don't understand why anyone would call madame x a good record. Maybe i need a relisten because i hated everything on first listen.

That said Hard Candy is an atrocious cover but I loved the entire album even though most people seem to dislike it.

This thread was inspired by Alanis Morissette, queen of releasing amazing albums with horrible covers:poot:

Yes, omg, my mom got me into Alanis back in the 90s when I was a kid, and we owned a whole stack of her CDs! I remember I transferred the Alanis CDs into a book because I was embarrased by this particular cover where Alanis was nude. :sharon: I think it was a Jagged Little Pill special edition, or maybe the backside of Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie :smh:

i mean we all have different music tastes which is okay.

i enjoyed Madame X greatly and it was in my top 10 for records released last year because of its experimentation with international genres. it felt like a new evolution for Madonna and i can hear her enjoyment in the music, she had fun making it clearly and the visuals were iconic.

plus God Control, Bitch I'm Loca, Faz Gostoso and I Dont Search I Find are all bops for me (and i rise is a gorgeous song)

I don't hate the Hard Candy cover art but it's not my favourite. Hard Candy is my least fave Madonna album but I do enjoy most of the material.

All of these are on purpose and have a meaning.

The name "Madonna" is placed between her eyebrows as a homage to Frida Kahlo and is reminiscent of her signature unibrow.

The albums' name "Madame X" is placed on her lips and also makes a reference to her late mother. According to a 1991 interview with Vanity Fair, she remembered that her mother's lips looked funny in the funeral. When she got closer, she saw that Madonna Sr's lips had been sewn together. This image of her mother had haunted Madonna for many years, and led her to comment that she never could resolve her Electra complex. Madonna previously included a similar image in the music video of her song "Oh Father" (pictured down below).

oh wow, i didn't know about this, but it makes me like the artwork more then.

Let's be honest, the Chormatica cover is not very good.
