It's about PTSD. The trauma causes her bad memories to keep replaying.

"But really Chromatica cannot exist without an abstract explanation of what it's like to be triggered if you have PTSD. It's a replay of all my monsters, not the little ones. And the very thing that has plagued mind for years, trauma, is precisely the thing that now powers my life force to be braver i.e. this voice I hear - continue to make music although your brain feels like it's breaking sometimes."

While I completely agree that the song is about her assault and the PTSD from it, I don't think it was ever proven that Fusari is the assaulter. That's just speculation.

I can't remember which interview was it, but she said once that the assaulter was 20 years older to her, besides saying that he was a producer in the music industry. Fusari is 44, only 10 years older than her.

"I was protected by the monks of Azarath, I was raised by my friends. They are my family, this is my home and you are not welcome here."

Why isn’t the “unnamed producer” an option?

Cause I didn't know when I made the thread, cheers :vegas:

All the things she said about it point to him. She only worked with one producer when she was 19, that was 20 years older than her (Rob is, proven in legal docs from when he sued her). The biggest clue to me is when she said on Howard Stern that the producer in question claimed in the media that they dated. No other producer that Gaga has worked with, of any age in any time frame has claimed to have dated her.

There are many other things that line up to the things she's said as well, but of course we don't KNOW 100%

When you have severe PTSD often therapy is to "unblend" the different parts of yourself that you develop to keep yourself safe. I believe that she wrote this about the different parts of herself. It's definitely about PTSD with "the scars on my mind are on replay" -- but the parts where she's singing "your monsters" or "you monsters" could be referring to the parts of herself that trigger her and are hard to deal with.

And since it's art, I think she left it vague enough so that other interpretations are also possible. Like the fans being the monsters.

Gaga has hardly ever written a song that's literal and only has one meaning.

I think it's about TRAUMA, and all the various ways it is relevant to her lived experience

a) I think that first and foremost, she talks about the physical/mental sensations associated with living with PTSD and having a chronically dysregulated autonomic nervous system. she references racing thoughts, feelings of numbness/dissociation, etc. all describing trauma response. If the lyric about triggers wasnt obvious enough. "psychologically it's something that i can't explain..." Trauma afterall leaves scars on the mind and body (fibromyalgia potentially, chronic pain)

b) I think it's about partners, friends, family, or people she has had personal closeness in her life, kind of lamenting over how they don't know what to do or say when she gets into her trauma response state, and neither does she.  Perhaps her ex relationship is referenced with the lyrics where she is speaking to somebody as a "you"

c) I think it's about Fame and how that has psychologically hurt her. I do think even if it's disguised differently that she is talking to her fans, who are always trying to control her, criticize her, tell her what to do, touch her, throw sh*t at her, stalk her, etc. You monsters torture meee:messga:
