Gagaloo911 12,959
As they should. Such an embarrassment considering how huge the show is even if I never got into it. Although, maybe it's better they didn't considering how horrible the show is with most things, it probably would have made a POC super stereotypical and not helped in anyway

Annie has ginger her and she's white. They stripped any of her ginger essence just to satisfy forced diversity. I agree with more diversity though and so many of my favourite black actors and directors have missed out on well deserved awards and even nominations over the years It's a story, a fictional narrative. The creator chooses what this world is like and what the characters are like. Where is the forced part in this diversity? Reboots being unoriginal and just a rehash with a twist is nothing new and has nothing to do with the diversity aspect.

Lord Temptation 11,209
Sorry but the fat jokes, gay jokes and just cruel, derogatory behaviour between so-called friends was already the last straw. The segregation of races was just icing on the cake, which you can get take Marta, and hit yourself on the face with it The 90s wasn’t the damn 50s, hun

LordByron28 1,064
I know some people that still watch this show all the time. Especially nowadays, I don't see how people enjoy it. I enjoyed it when I was 8, it was more or less like a Disney Channel show with the level of basicness.
Lucas 27,138
People who hate on this show need to buy a sense of humour, harmless jokes and being straight up offensive to try to hurt people are 2 different things

There was very few coloured characters in the show, but Rhonda was FAB! 🤣👏🏼 forced diversity can be a problem. They should take in to consideration the storyline of the show, the setting and the actual talent and capability of the actor them self. Done with everyone saying the show was homophobic too. The show came out in a very different time and we even lucky gays were even mentioned in the show so freely and in a light manner like it did in the 90s. I love Rhonda. Wish she had more screentime tho.

But I also think that if it was a more diverse show, it might have been less likely that they could sell the idea to studio executives at the time. It's still like that sometimes. For Orange is the new Black they pitched it like the story would revolve around Piper Chapman, the basic white character, and eventually all other characters in that show are more interesting. Especially the POC storylines stand out and are so well written, lots of amazing origin stories. Orange Is the New Black is based on a true story of a white woman though. I don't think it has much to do with them pitching it like that on purpose. It's always been an ensemble cast from the start, Piper is just the way in and the beginning. 1 hour ago, Azor Ahai said: No such thing as forced diversity. There could always be the token black character.

I don't think there was any ill intent, but it's problematic nonetheless. In my opinion it seriously taints it as an otherwise timeless show. Exactly. It doesn't make it right, but it's a reflection of how entertainment was made back then. Luckily, we've already come a long way since then, but as we know, it's still not perfect of course. Cookie Tookie 10,546
Ok well it’s too late now The show is over 20 years old... this should be a drive for people to cast more diverse roles now in 2020, instead of saying I wish 2 decades later.
