Enigma as lead single?

Guys, as much as I appreciate people wanting Chromatica songs to be successful, nothing on the album is safe single material except for Stupid Love, Rain On Me, Free Woman and maybe Fun Tonight.

I feel like Enigma should have been Heavy Metal Lover 2.0. Enigma is one of the weakest tracks on the album tbh. The sound starts getting repetitive when Enigma comes on the tracklist

honey. what are you even saying? i appreciate how much you are trying to digest the music but like... let's say there is a full story told on chromatica (which there isn't IMO) maybe I don't like the way she told the story enigma was meant to tell. and maybe i think it's filler cuz i think a better song could have been written to display that emotion.

i don't feel this way exactly but like... it's an album and bad songs are filler. if your definition of filler was the case then there automatically isn't any filler on any album ever made because the artist chose what would go on the album.

Art is up for interpretation, if you aren’t getting a story from it then that’s more to do with your imagination than the art itself. Art is subjective, let it take on whatever meaning you wish.

as for the filler issue, yeah that’s what I’m saying. If a song is intentionally put on then it’s not filler. Your personal opinion that a song is bad doesn’t make it a filler. To you? Yes, but in officially? No. You can feel however you want about whatever you want, could Gaga have written a better song & put it in Enigma’s place? It’s possible but it’s also possible that she chose the best out of everything she wrote for the album & put it there to complete the narrative which is most likely the case given everything she’s said about the album & it’s meaning.

YaaaasGaga

Enigma would've been a better lead single in the UK. It's completely reminiscent of the 90's house trend that dominate the radio here and overall is a better song than Stupid Love

idk even in songs I write, I can still love singing a song and know that it's not a good song if that makes sense. It's just like a feeling that I get listening to a song or writing a song when i feel like d*mn this isn't a good song. but i can still enjoy it you know. but i know it's filler even if i still enjoy it somewhat.

I think it's important to be open to art but if something isn't clicking with you that's ok. it might not be filler to you but it may be to me or vice versa.

What is safe to you might not be safe to others. For example, Fun Tonight wouldn’t be a great choice in my opinion because it talks about her personal experience with fame in such a specific way that the majority of people listening wouldn’t relate to it. When have you been in a situation where your friend or lover was using you for your fame? 😂 anyways, it’s all opinions, including yours. Let us discuss & have fun! 😇

Everyone whose listened to the album picks Enigma as a standout. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Enigma would’ve been the perfect lead. Its experimental enough to be a risk but accessible enough to be widely consumed. The chorus is just WILDLY catch and remarkable, it SCREAMS Gaga. Also if it failed she’d still have ROM to save the day :ladyhaha:

Noir

only Alice or Free Woman would've been better leads than SL

Oh yeah, definitely that makes sense. I’ve written some really baaad songs that were just not up to par with my abilities & yeah that’s what I’m saying! 😂 I feel like this was just one big misinterpretation itself cause now that we’ve gone in depth I see what you’re saying better.

Imagine the music video for Enigma with all Gaga alter-egos and personalities  from each era , even one with meat dress comes together dancing playing piano singing screaming like crazy and at the last explosive chorus Chromatica Gaga comes up and the new era aesthetic is introduced in such a way!
i can imagine the shock factor and headlines :bradley:

would truly be an enigma!

I mean safe for radios, I'm not attacking your opinion

As for your question: sometimes it happened 🤣🐏

I like the song a lot. It shows a different side to Chromatica that seems to come in the last half of the album. The interludes are basically the title tracks of the era, but I was thinking about how Enigma is like a parallel theme (like how Angel Down seems to bring Joanne together in an alternate way). I think Stupid Love was more safe and vivid thematically for the lead single, and Enigma has more of a mysterious and fan favorite vibe to it.

Presto

It would have been an excellent lead single. It has that anthemic quality to it that lead singles need.

2NE1LG

It wouldn't have worked. The pacing of the verses is too slow to hold attention on streaming
