I heard kindness and began to disengage. Did she just tell people to be kind? Was that the message? Again? Not trying to be shady. I love this woman. But people are angry. And their anger’s justified.

please tell me she didn’t just say to be kind lol

She also had a message about the importance of LISTENING TO PEOPLE, as it helps to build understanding and compassion. But clearly you missed that bit :vegas:

LOUDER

Not going to feed the drama about her physique but she looks wonderful.

Plus she delivered a great and motivational speech. :applause:

My name isn't Alice but I'll keep looking for Wonderland.

Oh wow so she rewrote and re-recorded her speech! Good on her. She talks so passionately with her hands, I'm flashing back to all the threads GGD had about her conversation in the car with Michael :laughga: Rehearsal!

I wonder if she wore the same outfit and makeup/hair in the old speech or a different look.

Nice speech, and I enjoyed the forest analogy. Though I think my favorite comment from her so far on current events was from her May 31 written statement -- "I'm afraid to say anything that will incite further anger, although that is precisely the emotion that's justified" -- because it was clearly acknowledging and validating a strong emotion before moving on to the typical focus on practicing kindness, even when it's so difficult.

I still think she could've performed, all other artists did.. But sometimes I forget we're talking about Gaga. I don't think any other artist had the same passion she did for the issue..

as someone graduating high school currently, speeches like this are the ones that inspire me. not the speeches just lightly sugarcoating everything, but the ones that really tell us that we will make a difference in this world together. thank you, gaga :kara:

Pls don't leave condescending comments if you don't even bother listening to her speech.  When Gaga did talk about kindness (near the end of her speech... so idk about you tuning out), she made sure to explain practicing kindness is her contribution to the world, but everyone has different ethics and value systems, and all of them are part of the path forward. She laid out a metaphor about society being a forest and how racism permeates the roots, but the graduating class can be new seeds for a new forest.

Since we're all approaching this issue with different ethical codes, we can interpret that as radical as we want... I think you gotta set some things on fire if you want a new forest :ally:

My first ever meltdown.
I heard kindness and immediately began to disengage and thank you for clarifying. I thought she was trying to say to spread kindness again which is a very tone deaf and privileged thing to say.
I appreciate you also realizing the anger is in fact justified with your last sentence. Lot of people on here who don’t have a grasp on what minorities experience think killing with kindness is possible at this point.
