When each song was created?

So I know Gaga said she’s been working on Chromatica for 2 and a half years, which would mean she started towards the end of JWT. Do we have any idea of when each song was created? Or when the concepts started coming together? Or is it too early ? :selena:

Bloodpop did an interview

-Stupid Love was one of the first songs written, maybe even the first, and the final version was pretty much done in November 2017 and was first played to Gaga when she was in KC on the Joanne Tour (!!)

-Genius claims that Enigma was originally the title track for the album and was also written very early on

-Sine From Above came later

“It actually [began] around the same time Gaga was working on A Star is Born,” Tucker tells Rolling Stone. Following the release of Joanne in late 2016, Gaga sunk her teeth into the film soon after, writing and recording the soundtrack just before shooting that following spring. Her Joanne World Tour would begin that summer.

For ASIB, Tucker and the pop star would write ideas at her home. While none of their collaborations during this time would make the soundtrack, one idea did stand out: “Stupid Love.”

“I worked on that demo for a while but it was missing something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. When I played it for Max Martin, he had some fantastic ideas that really elevated it,” Tucker explains. When Gaga’s Joanne World Tour arrived in Kansas City, his hometown, in November 2017, he flew out to play her the new version of what would become Chromatica’s lead single. “I played it on her bluetooth speaker in her dressing room with my family and friends present. I would definitely consider that the moment Chromatica was started.”

In January 2019, she began working with producer Burns (Charli XCX, Little Mix, PartyNextDoor), who would become integral to the album-making process as well, producing almost every song alongside Gaga and BloodPop. Burns brought some ideas for “Enigma,” the piano house number on Chromatica. At the time, Gaga and Tucker had “so many spinning plates,” as he describes it, with just-budding tracks beginning to come alive. They decided to solidify an album once five songs were completed: “Stupid Love,” “Enigma,” “Rain on Me,” “Alice” and “Free Woman.”

I hope we get to see videos of how some of these were recorded in the studio, kind of what she did the Joanne videos and they showed chapters about A-yo, Million Reasons, etc. I’m just dying to know more about Fun Tonight, Replay, Babylon, pretty much every song.

Absolutely! I wish an artist (and particularly Gaga) would make a documentary showing the whole process of making an album from writing to releasing, with recording studio BTS, including planning promo, photoshoots etc... It'd be so so interesting

"Producer Axwell later talked about how the song came about in an interview for Rolling Stone, stating: "I had this old song we worked on, like, seven years ago with Elton John. We tried working on it and we couldn't really get it where we wanted it. It was also kind of hard to get ahold of Elton John. I had this on my computer and was like, 'Wait a minute. Lady Gaga and Elton John are buddies.'" Axwell then sent the demo to Gaga and co-producer BloodPop who loved the track and decided to record it for Chromatica as a collaboration with John"

Omg, I knew something about it felt super nostalgic. I mean, the whole album is but something particular about that song. I wish we could have an early demo. Thank you sm

So it sounds like from the RS interview that maybe Gaga did co-produce those early demos?  I can’t believe she would go from producing every track on ASIB to not producing anything on Chromatica, considering the two albums overlapped.  Plus she said with the HLs ad music for Babylon - “music by Lady Gaga, Bloodpop, Boys Noize...”

I meant later TO GAGA - Yes it was written much earlier but was only brought to Gaga when she re-wrote it later in the album process
