First and foremost, I want to say that I do enjoy the album! That said:

1) The production for this album is weak, compared to her other albums. It is good, and it is very fun, but something about it just doesn’t hit hard enough, compared to any other body of work she has released.

I think what galvanizes that, for me, is that the lyrical and vocal content on the album is absolutely stellar- it simply just isn’t carried well enough by the instrumentation.

I don’t want to attribute it to any single person or anything, but my guess is that the process of “passing it around to many different producers and DJ’s” had a hand in it.

2) The album is cohesive, definitely- and probably her most! We’ve never had an album like this from her, where it’s meant to be set up as multiple acts that flow in one another.

It’s very cool, and very exciting, but also not without its shortcomings.

In particular, ACT I kind of muddles in together by the end. The run of ROM to Free Woman to Fun Tonight kind of homogenize itself, mostly in part to similar sonic influences and (in my opinion) a lack of sonic distinction. Same can be said between SFA and 1000 Doves

I think this is what makes Act II so exciting and fun to listen to.

3) SFA is such an incredible song, conceptually. The lyrics, the vocals, the whole high-drama of it all. It just... isn’t executed to its full potential.

The slightly 2012-Swedish House Mafia drop is actually kind of fitting, and I’ve made up my mind that it actually adds to the broad nature of the song (very reminiscent of Don’t You Worry Child). So it’s not necessarily that.

It’s just... such a big and grand song, that just isn’t big enough? In my opinion, this is the song where it should have gone full-force BTW-structure and just went all out: dramatic intro, big pre-chorus, huge chorus, catchy post-chorus, long and effective middle-eight, extended final chorus, and probably even an outro.

I don’t think having it as another tight, concise song with a less-than-effective D&B outro was the right move (and that’s considering it’s already the longest song on the album).

4) The interludes are a definite highlight of the album, if not the highlight of the album. They do their intended job very well, and really divide the narrative in a fun, kooky, and very cinematic manner.

Although I know its heavy orchestration is meant to be a severe contrast to the rest of the album, it just makes me wish that the pop tunes actually carried some of its edge. It makes me want Gaga to actually make an album reminiscent of Florence and The Machine’s How Big How Blue How Beautiful.

It makes me wonder how the album would have been if Gaga and Morgan Kibby took reins in writing and producing some of the non-interlude songs on the album.

Plastic Doll sounds like a Sharon Needles reject written as a pop culture parody that makes fun of “basics”.

Love me right IS AMAZING.
Rnb gaga > Edm gaga

I agree, but would Love Me Right be considered R&B influenced? I just tied it in with 80’s/90’s sugar pop, haha.

That said, if she gave this song a cute little bridge and a final chorus (to make it more complete), this song could easily become one of my all-time favorites from her. As it is, I still really enjoy it.

Love Me Right should have been on the standard edition instead of Stupid Love

The album is missing something, feels almost too safe for a Gaga album

Replay is the worst song on the album (With stupid love)

The lyrics could be better

Some songs sound dated

the demo and final version of stupid love are literally the same, aside from being a little louder with a bit of a higher end boost on the EQ.

To me they sound completely different. The reverberation, the beat is louder in the demo and the hats are louder in tge album version, I also love the raw demo transition from the bridge to the last chorus, I also love the bridge more in the demo since the vocals are louder, and I love the heavy bass as well

These are details to most people but it's very important to me; I loved how raw/almost unmastered the Born This Way album was

Haha yeah I guess it's mostly an opinion thing. That's the reason I don't like alot of born this way but I see why people love it :)

Yes, it's just an opinion :)It also depends on the kind of music it is, I can't imagine LoveGame or DWUW being as loud/raw as the BTW album

See, that's what's beautiful about Gaga's career: we all have different opinions and preferences, but at the end of the day, we all love her and there are songs for everyone

My one big problem with the album is that a lot of the songs are all build-up with no pay off. I felt like I was being teased the whole time with no climax. I was waiting for a drop or a big chorus and it felt like the songs just never went anywhere (with a few exceptions). That said it is still a strong album that I love.

this. especially the build-up of the first verse of Fun Tonight and she transitioned from "I'm not having fun tonight" straightly to the second verse without a beat drop, and I was absolutely underwhelmed.
