alsemanche 97,820 Posted June 6, 2020 Share Posted June 6, 2020 Trigger Warning: sexual and physical assault, harassment, rape Kuwaiti transwoman Maha Al Mutairi has been arrested, assaulted, raped, and imprisoned by Kuwaiti police on June 5. She is now in a male prison despite her being a woman. Maha Al Mutairi has been previously arrested and violated as well. A petition has been created demanding the abolition of Article 198 in the Kuwaiti penal code which states that "any person committing an indecent act in a public place, or imitating the appearance of a member of the opposite sex, shall be subject to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding one thousand dinars [US$3,500]." This article (along with Article 193 which criminalizes consensual intercourse between men) has often been used to arrest and oppress queer people in Kuwait.
