When I first heard Replay the first thing that came to mind was "this sounds kind of Halloween-y?" like it has a weird zombie-prom / sci-fi production to it. So then as someone who has actually read the book I decided to to dig into the lyrics a bit to see maybe if there were any reason to believe that this may be Frankensteined but with a few lyrical changes. Am I still alive? Where am I? I cry Who was it that pulled the trigger, was it you or I? I'm completely numb, why you acting dumb? I won't blame myself 'cause we both know you were the one These lyrics remind me of the awakening of Frankenstein. Like when the lever is pulled and the monster comes to life. If you simply switch the word "trigger" for "lever" this entire section fills that fantasy. I don't know what to do, you don't know what to say The scars on my mind are on replay, r-replay The monster inside you is torturing me The scars on my mind are on replay, r-replay, eh-eh Psychologically, it's something that I can't explain Scratch my nails into the dirt to pull me out okay Does it matter, does it matter? Damage is done As you might know, throughout the novel, Victor Frankenstein (the doctor) creates the monster but by the end it's the monster who is seemingly more human while Victor becomes more and more monster-like in terms of his psychology which inevitably leads to his doom. Every single day, yeah, I dig a grave Then I sit inside it, wondering if I'll behave It’s a game I play, and I hate to say You're the worst thing and the best thing that's happened to me In the novel, grave digging is actually practiced by Victor Frankenstein and it's actually where he gets the pieces of to create the monster. It would be something that makes her feel frankensteined, broken, etc. But I feel like RedOne would have writing credits on it then. Gypsy was originally RedOne's song and she completely changed it and he still got a credit. I think he has a writing credit even for Angel Down album version.
