NYT is known to be harsh on pop acts and they are especially hard on Gaga

ive never understood why certain critics always bash pop acts. it’s just pop, it’s not going to be some groundbreaking world shaking revelation of music. not everything has to be pots and pans banging together subversive sound to be good.

I agree but I think Gaga has set herself for this harshness because she has fought really hard to be taken seriously throughout her career. I think because of this, she gets judged more critically and harsher. You will never have a critic analyze a Katy Perry album the way they dissect a Gaga album and I think that still shows how powerful Gaga is, even if it does result in some low scores on the critical end. Gaga has also created some of the best pop albums of all time and they are always being analyzed in the deep circles of pop discussers. I am not sure if you read the NYTs Chromatica discussion but I was surprised to see them praise ARTPOP. The most reputable and biggest newspaper in the world is writing this and I find it so bizarre but also warranted as ARTPOP is fantastic.

In my humble opinion it would be better to have a good score in  publications that have a huge readership or well respected reviewers. Is my first thought.

NYT roasting Gaga as expected

"I’m going to toss out two albums that came to mind listening to this one: Madonna’s “American Life” and Katy Perry’s “Witness.” Both are expensive-sounding attempts at statement pop (about the world, about the self) that are also hollow because they neither reveal much that’s artistically compelling nor make much of a statement."

Sad...

Ooooh, so it's not technically review. Okay, lets hope either their review is a bit more gentle (60+ maybe?) or not posted at all.

Maybe little monsters will ddos their website :poot:

Some publications are so predictable. It’s like watching cheap reality show.

Some of the lower reviews are so disappointing it’s like they had already decided on there opinion before even pressing play

Can the AOTY score stop here? The Fame only has 11 reviews... why can’t Chromatica 💕

I can't believe critics creating this delusion that Gaga is coming off with yet another ALBUM OF THE MILLENIUM!!!11! :saladga: Like it's clear she wanted a pink and personal dance record and she definitely gave us one. The standards Gaga is being held up to is so high :madge: It's all cuz those NYC haute-societe folks like to pretend they know everything when it comes to art. If Gaga didn't choose to be mainstream for the sake of making people hear her and turned a Tisch grad elitist, they would be eating her up :fthis:

The album has nothing to do with Witness and AL at all lmao.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

You guys shouldn’t set your expectations too high. We all know critics are especially hard on her, so for her to get high 70’s is basically equivalent to Lemonade for Gaga. Not going to get much better than that.

It will probably stabilize around 75 at the lowest I think. But would be awesome for her to snatch 80. If Dua Lipa and The Weeknd can, why wouldn't Gaga?

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.
