You may not know this but in an hour or so in my country, Costa Rica, we will have marriage equality, at midnight in our time zone to be more precise.

English is not my first language, but I am really excited to share this with you. It’s been a long way. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

After years of inequality experiences, legal battles, political debates, finally the Supreme Court date is upon us. No specific legislation will be passed; instead, articles of the country’s family code that explicitly prevent same-sex marriage will be repealed.

You can go on twitter and search for my country right now, or Matrimonio Igualitario and you’ll find all kind of posts of celebration, even though we’re on a middle of a sanitary emergency, we finally did it.

Honestly I never knew it didnt have marriage equality already:messga: I’ve always thought of Costa Rica as being really socially progressive but I guess I dont live there.

This must be an amazing time for you can your country. Sorry you cant celebrate the way you imagined right now.

Im currently watching the livestream in canal 13! I cant believe we finally have this huge accomplishment upon us!

It was a very nerve wracking week. For those who dont know, just last week, about 26 members of the legislative assembly tried to block the entry of same sex marriage by pushing a motion asking for an indefinite delay under the excuse that "they had no time to debate how to integrate it into the constitution because of covid-19" (mind you they had 2 years before that ). However, the motion was rejected, and now Im overjoyed to see this whole event come to fruition!

It officially becomes legal in less than 50 minutes!

Two years ago during our presidential election, one of the candidates sky rocketed from last place to first place JUST because he said he would center his campaign in tearing down the same ruling of the court that is imposing the marriage equality today. I remember seeing that 60% of the population was against equality but the gays won anyway. His whole team aged like milk :trollga:
