I'm so glad we continue to sh*t on the haters.... basically since the Superbowl performance the funny thing is I was totally unaware that ARTPOP was underperforming at the time I was like still pretty young so I hadn't fully submerged myself into stan culture / chart culture yet, I was literally just enjoying the music, I only realised something was off when she stopped releasing singles from ARTPOP and moved on to C2C, I was like 'wait what lol'

It was the fact that she literally fell off the face of the pop Earth or people were bashing her. I have a theory that her old manager Troy knew many people in the industry and after she fired him, he used his money and resources to destroy that era. In the time it came out, it came out after Gaga had just put out two massively successful avante-garde projects with TFM and BTW where the performances and visuals were always shocking and surprising. So by ARTPOP people had gotten tired of it. However I think now people almost miss that aspect of her since it’s been so long. I mean the most negative reactions I’ve read about ROM are people saying it’s too basic and not like Gaga. As if she needs to reinvent the wheel or something again. Which leads me to this, and I may get dragged for saying this, but ARTPOP kinda made pop music boring for me since it’s release. Even if Gaga didn’t live up to a lot of what she was saying she was gonna do that era, no other pop girl has even attempted to promise anything on that level. The app and other technologies they were developing, announcing the second act before the first one was even out, performing in f*cking space, and everything else she hyped to the moon. Maybe the GP subconsciously recognizes that too, that Gaga’s peak (not just AP, TFM and BTW too) is really still the most interesting, surprising and shocking era of pop recently and they want that back. So that’s why I kinda think that some concepts from ARTPOP would be looked at in a better light now (not really the music though, as the type of EDM the album was isn’t really in right now). Although she has successfully reinvented herself, I think people will always associate her in part with what made her so dominating to begin with - someone who can weird them out, surprise them and get them talking. Sorry I’ve made two long rants in the thread already, our fave has just had such an interesting career over just the past decade. Omg THIS! So many points were made, but especially that most popstars are SO boring compared to Gaga. I mean she gives full concepts, high art, visuals looks, performance art, EVERYTHING! Even in all its messiness, at least we can say Gaga always sells the f*ck out of her work and stays true to herself and the art of that era. I stan gaga since 2008 too, and I had so much expectations for ARTPOP, and ended up very disappointed, which, I know, isn’t right. She had been hyping us so much, I was expecting something revolutionary, thought provoking, artsy af, with lots of technology, avant-garde, and in the end I felt like it wasn’t as big as she made us think (or at least as I was expecting). It’s still a great album though, but the era was indeed messy. After that, I started to be less staning, my tastes in music changed a little bit. Then C2C, which I didn’t enjoy that much but I was very proud of her for showing another aspect of her talent, and flirting with a whole new public. I was so hyped for AHS, but I didn’t think she was really showing her talent as an actress, as I thought The Countess was basically... Gaga being Gaga but it was still so good to see her on the show, it was brilliant. Then Joanne, I liked a few songs, I understood she needed to take a different turn in her career, and I was, again, happy she could show to the world that she can sing and is more than a weird pop star in a meat dress. But I wasn’t hyped as I used to though... Then the Superbowl half time, I was SHOOKETH I felt what I felt when I was a hardcore fan, seeing her celebrate her legacy with this awesome performance, I wasn’t prepared for such slayage tbh, and I was living. Then ASIB, I was blown away, so proud of her, for being vulnerable, showing a whole different aspect, again, of her many talents. And now Chromatica in coming. I wasn’t expecting anything this time (which is the right thing to do). I didn’t like SL at first, thought it sounded cheap and too similar to previous songs of her, I felt like it was an attempt to please old fans (like me) but I didn’t enjoy at all. Even the video felt kinda cheap to me... but then I started to listen again, again, again, and it grew in me and I realised that I was expecting too much from her, and that’s wrong. I don’t know why, it’s like I’m asking her to always be ahead of her time, geeky, deep, but f***, she is serving us music to dance and sing on, healing sounds, and i shouldn’t ask for more because that’s clearly what the world needs now, and for other type of music/artistry, i have another constellation of artists, so I’ve come to term with this « disappointment » sh*t which is really stupid. And clearly she is feeding us with great content lately, so I’m completely happy about it. And now ROM, omg, I’m so hyped again, it’s so good. I feel like this album and era are going to be her revenge on how ARTPOP has been received and promoted. I’m not about always going in the past, what has been done is done, and I truly want her to evolve and create new sounds, new visions, and I feel like that’s what she’s doing with Chromatica. I leave my expectations aside for the moment, and wait for it to come out (so soon omg) Okay well, sorry for this novel and thanks for the ones who read, and, well, welcome to myself i guess Omg I YAAASSSed and LMAOed to your post. She really did overhype with the app and mv for each song, all that stuff. I think people forget all the literal promises she made that era. Though now I think there were so many things out if her control.

It inspired me to reconnect with my family and learn about our history. But now I'm finding the same situation Gaga did with her dad, nothing you do can heal your family's trauma. So now I will dance through the pain with Chromatica

And all the songs she teased and never released ugh even the flying dress was such a disappointment. She hyped us like crazy and we were thirsty af, and it wasn’t a good move but I think now she got it. But i also think it was a matter of circumstances, many controversies (Banks, R.K,...), it didn’t help this era at all, she had to cancel mv’s and stuff. Well. At least she got through it stronger than ever

AP didn't really make much noise outside of the stan world. At that point, people were over the gaga hype. She had become an eyeroll and other releases in pop were more entertaining to the public (Katy's peak, Lorde, Miley). EDIT: Since this seems to be really striking a chord with people i just wanna add that the things we/pop music stans made a big deal were virtually unknown to the public. nobody knows/remembers AP's first week projection numbers were going down every day, no one knew dwuw wasn't a top 10 hit, no one knew about the troy drama, no one noticed she was gone during her blackout, nobody thought she was over- they just didn't care for gaga at the moment. if you were to ask normal people about ARTPOP they would probably respond with "which album was that?" and if you reference applause or dwuw they might vaguely remember but for the most part it didn't really make a dent in culture (they she use to). were critics harsh- sure, but in terms of backlash, she received waaaay more during tf, tfm, and btw (i.e. meat dress, alejandro video, btw video, vma paparazzi performance, etc). oddly enough the btw era was really the catalyst for it but since she was riding the wave of her peak, we didn't really see the impact until ap era (or you could argue mtn) Sis. It wasn't just other stanbases calling AP fart-poop. There was tons of backlash.
