About the Rain On Me Hate

You probably haven’t seen my before here on GGD or have forgotten about me because I have been inactive the last few months. The truth is, though, that I’m still lurking on this site. I was especially excited to come back and visit GGD right when the Stupid Love rumours came in. I was gonna share my excitement about LG6 with all of you.

Last night (or today depending on where you live) ‘Rain On Me’ dropped. I was about to log in, but then the site crashed, so I decided to listen to the song on my own. I loved everything about it from the first listen. I thought it was a well-produced song with an amazing combination of vocals and a perfect mix of pop, house and EDM. I put it on loop and listened to it for at least 15 times before going to sleep (because it was 7am ). The next morning I decided to log in here and see what the rest of you guys thought of the song.

I was disappointed, but unfortunately not surprised, to see so many of you guys hating on the song and on Gaga. I am aware that this is an extremely commonplace practice here and that there have been much worse scenarios in the past. The ratio of dissatisfied, joyless posts ranting about how uninspiring and generic the song sounded like to the posts that actually had something positive to say about the song, was extremely high and, quite frankly, felt like something one would come across on s site like madonnanation. Sometimes GGD feels like a hating-on-Gaga forum rather than an actual fan site. 

I understand that you might not like the song and it is totally normal for us to have different opinions. However, the one thing I cannot wrap my head around is why you need to ruin the experience for the rest of us. Every opinion is accepted, as long as it doesn’t come across as pure hate for Gaga and eventually doesn’t turn into a downward spiral. Many times our obsession with someone can easily turn into hatred and it is important to acknowledge that and take a step back. It is so ironic how we are part of a fanbase of an artist that runs on kindness mottos. At the end of the day, it’s music we’re talking about and music should be a fun experience for all. I am extremely excited for Chromatica to come out. What I’ve heard so far (and I don’t mean the leaks ) is so amazing and it’s about time we listen to some good ol’ Gaga pop bangers and have some fun.

I was contemplating whether or not I should make this thread. I know there have been many like this one already and I highly doubt that this is going to make even the smallest difference. What is wish to do is simply remind you that we always have to keep in mind why we are here. What unites us all is our love and admiration for Lady Gaga and if the only thing you’re feeling towards her is hate, maybe take a step back. We ought to see the bigger picture and in times like this GGD fails to do that. Having said all that, I don’t mean to project any negativity into all of you or make anyone feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. 

Let’s stop the drama and start the music - the video is coming in 4 hours and Chromatica in less than a week!

Is there really a segment of people who realy hate ROM, or is it just a very, very small vocal minority? Cause I'm thinking it's the latter.

I agree that ROM is just so good that I have a difficult time thinking people don't like it, but at the end of the day, it's their opinion, so whatever...I guess...

Is it people in the "Rain On Me - Official Audio" thread? I haven't read that cause the first page was already filled with people being like "meh" or "it's okay, but..." The Chromatica Act IV Discussion Thread was very positive about it (for the most part).

If you want to have a "negative free" experience of Gagas music, you can do that. No need to enter a forum with thousands of users and read every single comment expecting "negative free" comments. The whole purpose of a forum is for people to give their different opinion and discuss it. Trying to control peoples subjective taste in music is just weird. I understand if you have an issue with people who attack Gaga, but simply giving their opinion in a respectful way is fine.

Second, I completely agree, but it's just not about the negative opinions. Every opinion that is stated like a fact is toxic. When someone says "I don't like it" and that someone replies "you guys are always complaining" THIS is toxic. If you don't agree, ask why, say why but stop overreacting (this is not pointing at OP AT ALL btw). Even me, I sometimes say my opinion as if it was a fact, now I think a bit more before commenting,but I will never harass someone for liking or disliking something. We all are equal. 

GGD can be sad sometimes but honestly Twitter is way worse

Of course people can give their opinions and not every song is for everyone, but nobody can't say that ROM isn't a very strong track

there’s a lot of people who will listen to it once and nothing will be able to live up to the hype they had for this song so it will be disappointing and they will think they hate it

let them have a sulk for a few days and they’ll listen 2/3 times more then get hooked!  it’s definitely a grower

Don't worry, there is only a small percentage of people who are slightly disappointed.

And an even SMALLER percentage of people who "HATE" it. Anyone who hates on Gaga's efforts to create joy is just tragically lame.
I know that's very absolute and harsh, but "hating" something that does no harm is also absolute and harsh. So you reap what you sow.
