There was slavery everywhere but the North fought to end it. There are less Republicans in the North because there were less slave owners. The correlation is too strong to ignore.

Sure it was a “battle” flag. And they were battling for slavery. Anyone owning that flag is a disgusting person.

My dad has a confederate flag and understands the awful history, but he likes the design of it and he is far from racist and a disgusting person and there are different interpretations of the meaning and different flags that do look similar, I would never personally own one, but do I judge my dad? no. He is not republican, he is apolitical. Oh and F*ck you if you say anything bad about my dad, you don't know him.

Not everybody on both sides are perfect, I disagree again, sorry, yes the modern republican party is destroyed, but saying everybody is bad is kind of disgusting.

What’s disgusting is that their views are seen as a normal, valid political opinion.

The Republican platform is literally “Christian bigotry but dilute it just enough that it’s not blatant”. You don’t vote republican without an hidden intolerant motive.

Imagine owning the pro-slavery flag because “you like the design”. Big ****ing yikes. Should we be able to own a Nazi flag because the colours match? It’s nearly the same thing, only one of them has been normalized (yikes).

Don’t judge your dad if you want to be “apolitical“, but don’t come at us for calling it out. I’m judging your dad big time and so should you, but oh well.

I hate politics anyways. There are different levels of the right wing spectrum.

Imagine having a confederate flag and pretending you're not political :ladyhaha:

Choosing to own and represent such a symbol is political no matter how you try to spin it.

The confederate flag is a political symbol quite literally. It represented a politics that wished to secede from the rest of the nation in order to keep propped up a system of slavery and servitude of an entire category of people. Choosing to uphold such a symbol is to endorse and support such a politics.

Stop deluding yourself man.

The economic right wing in other countries? Sure.

Republicans? No. They’re ACTIVELY trying to take away basic human rights. And American politics are all red or all blue, so red is a big no.

Just because YOU are not interested in it doesn’t mean everyone has to close their eyes on this issue.

I don’t need to know anything besides the fact he owns a slavery flag. Don’t care about the rest.

Then WHY the **** does he own one?

I don't own it, my dad does, he doesn't care for politics, he also has autism and so do I, idk if he really knows the meaning, I do feel bad about it. I am left leaning btw, my dad is apolitical.

Then he has no reason to own one. “Not knowing” is no excuse. I’m not even American and I know.

Today, the use of the Confederate flag is often controversial.  While a number of non-extremists still use the flag as a symbol of Southern heritage or pride, there is growing recognition, especially outside the South, that the symbol is offensive to many Americans.  However, because of the continued use of the flag by non-extremists, one should not automatically assume that display of the flag is racist or white supremacist in nature.  The symbol should only be judged in context.  This is from ADL

It’s still racist. It’s just been normalized. If you’re proud of being southern, buy a Texas flag.

I don't live in Texas and I don't own the confederate flag my dad does, I live in TN and my dad has one too.  I would never own a confederate flag. I honestly hate being southern for the record.
