It could easily be considered inappropriate, or disrespectful for a white woman to publicly intrude on the collective success of her black female peers.
With *ALL* things considered Lana should’ve known better. At the very least she should know that it was distasteful.

No, this is a ludicrous statement. She would’ve made the same post regardless of the colour of the artists mentioned skin. Her post had nothing to do with race. Nothing at all. The fact that the women mentioned were black was purely coincidental. You’re missing the whole point she was trying to make and, instead, introducing identity politics into the mix where it does not belong. But then again, I understand why you did, people are so focused on identity politics right now that it’s hard to not get caught up in it. But it’s dangerous and damaging to use it so carelessly and bring it in to every single issue because it will eventually dilute itself to the point where it will have no validity because of its overuse and nobody will take it seriously when it’s really needed. You can waste your whole life on identity politics and it’ll be a never ending battle for you. Can we just start seeing people as individuals instead of the group to which they belong. I’m tired of it to be honest.

That is YOUR opinion. She's complaining about being criticized for writing about delicate topics while claiming that all these other (mostly black) women are able to do so freely, which could not be further from the truth. Historically, WOC performers were portrayed as oversexualized and promiscuous and have a hard time finding success and recognition in general. There was absolutely no need to bring those women into this conversation, since they have absolutely nothing to do with what Lana is complaining about.

She’s complaining about the double standard of praising women for being open about their sexuality while bashing others for being submissive in their relationships. To strengthen her argument she mentioned critically acclaimed women who not so subtly talk about sex.
I didn’t even think about Cardi, Beyonce etc being Woc, because that has nothing to do with Lana’s argument

How white feminist of her to complain about women of colour singing about sex and other “taboo” topics. Maybe that wasn’t her intention but it just comes across as very holier than thou and it feels weird seeing a white woman complain about black women’s success and using stereotypes regarding their music to dismiss them.

why worry about critics?

if I were her, I wouldn't even address them unless, of course, I was insecure about my opinion / art in the first place :lana:

she's got her own solid fanbase, her records are selling well, the music critics generally appreciate her work in a high manner - where does this misunderstood/underappreciated victim mindset even come from for Lana? :oprah:

and calling out all the female singers in a low-key degrading manner :awkney:

oh Lana girl you could have expressed yourself much much better

I didn’t read your response. I stopped at “would’ve made the same post regardless of the colour“.
my post went over your head. It’s not a matter of whether or not she is racist. It’s about being conscious of your atmosphere, and sensitive to the wellbeing of others. She was neither of those things here.
I am one of Lana’s BIGGEST fans. I have lyrics tattooed. I have no reason to say the things I’m saying in an ill way. This is just the reality of America, and our history. She mentions the work she’s doing for Native Americans in the same post for crying out loud lol. She is smarter than this.

Her intentions are not racist because she was observing the women that are currently making hits about topics that clearly do not sit well with her. From her start, Lana was not one to be sexualized by the industry. To deny that the industry forces women to be sexual during times when they don't want to be is not cool. Could her phrasing be better? Sure, but what she's trying to say is very clear. You cannot extract a sentence and remove it from the context its put in just so people can go on some cancel culture bullshit rampage. There is REAL racism and racists to worry about. Not some post made by a singer to express her frustration.

I don’t really agree with what she’s saying in her post but you’re dead wrong to bring race into this. To read this as a white woman complaining about black women’s success is kind of disturbing. And, if you fully digested her words instead of being so reactionary, you’d understand that this is not her complaining about other people’s success, she’s pointing out hypocrisy in the industry. She’s not putting down any of the women mentioned at all in fact.

This is insane. We really need admin or a moderator in here. I cannot believe we’re allowing these kinds of responses.

No one should have to explain to people why while this isn’t racist it isn’t okay.

If you didn’t read my post, Gurl, I’m also going to stop at yours where you mentioned you didn’t read mine. I mean, I’m open to a conversation and a debate here but if you aren’t going to be respectful of or even consider other people’s views and opinions then you deserve none of it in return. Good luck to you and the small minded pile of sand that you’ve buried your head in. Good luck to you.

Considering one of her lyrics are her hit me and it felt like a kiss’ she can go choke. No one she named has ever said a negative thing about her. She’s just mad because she can’t get a number by releasing the same song over and over. We get it, Lana, you’re edgy and you whisper sing and use the same instrumental every time. Take notes from those women and get different themes other than abuse. Sorry but not a stan and never will be.

I get your point but Ultraviolence is much more than just glamorizing abuse(the lyrics are not even hers). Maybe you have been a victim of abuse and I can't tell you how to feel towards the song and the message. But at the same time you can't just throw away the reality that there is such abusive relationships. In her leaked song Afraid she touches that subject as well though with less controversial lyrics.

Can't people debate topics without being immediately silenced once they disagree with your point of view? Talk about facism:trollga:

Lona Delery

Lana girl you know I love you, but she chose some very bad wording :rip:

Her stans will obviously know that she loves these women and talked fondly of them in the past, and that this is more about the critics who tore her down for her every move back in 2012-2015

But Stan Twitter in generall will eat her up for this due to the lack of context :rip:

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride
