Bradley 58,852
I'm gonna try to put this into perspective for everyone. Joanne (standard): 11 tracks and is 39 minutes long. Chromatica (standard): 16 tracks (including 3 interludes). Now I'm gonna temporarily discount the interludes because they're most likely between 30 seconds and 1 min long, so if we're talking about real full tracks, we've got 13 of them. That's still more than Joanne. Let's talk about the length rather than the number of tracks. Let's not forget that we live in the streaming era and artists need to adapt to the current musical climate to get the best out of their careers. Chromatica has been marketed and hinted to be a very commercially driven album, something like Dangerous Woman, Talk that Talk, Anti rather than the more artsy (all for the Grammys and awards not the radio) ones like Lemonade or A Star Is Born. It's also noted from the fact that she has minimal production credits, though she did write every single one of them. I believe that she gave a lot of space for her collaborators because she wants to explore what it's like to make a pop record that is truly pop and untainted by her artsy references and non-radio-friendly instrumentals. With 43 mins for 13 tracks, the average length of Chromatica is 3 mins 30 secs, which isn't even that short. Some songs are gonna go a bit below, some songs above (prolly Sine form Above and 1000 Doves). Deluxe As for Joanne (deluxe) including GG, JAD and AD (work tape), it's 47 minutes long and I assume Chromatica (deluxe), including Love Me Right, 1000 Doves (piano) but not SL remix, will be between 49 and 50 mins long. That gives us a solid experience of an era based on a 15-track, 50-min long record with three interludes for the narrative and 1 demo. This is an album in the streaming era we're talking about. For comparison Future Nostalgia (Dua Lipa) - 11 tracks, 37 mins long. No bonus tracks. High Road (Kesha) - 16 tracks, 55 mins long, including all bonus tracks. Changes (Justin Bieber) - 16 tracks, 48 mins long. Rare (Selena Gomez) - originally 13 tracks, 42 mins. But her recent re-release made it 17 tracks, 54 mins. (still comparable to Chromatica) Chromatica - 15 tracks (including piano demo but not interludes), 49~50 minutes. There's still one TBA track for the Japan edition. It could be another piano demo. The only album that still prefers the long-album format is The Weeknd's After Hours, which is 65 mins long with 17 tracks. I don't think we can complain about Chromatica at all, it's pretty reasonable.

Enigma? because to GGD, long = good, when it's not necessarily the case. She's taking the commercial over the experimental route this time and the streaming era makes it more and more competitive for 4-6 min songs to thrive. By ensuring all songs are between 3 and 4 mins, she can practically pick any song to be released as a single and sent to the radio.

For once she is releasing a commercial album and monsters are still complaining. As long as there's no filler on the album a short album is what 2020 needs as you rightfully said. Future Nostalgia for example. In meanwhile we continue to love and support her irrespective of what length the album is Love it when you call me legs In the morning, buy me eggs
Bubblegum Bitch 18,934
To be honest, I prefer "Short" (though they are not short) albums, e.g. Future Nostalgia which is 37 minutes long, than 1.5-2 hours long albums.

Exactly. 4-5 min songs might have worked in 2011, but if she releases something like The Edge of Glory or You and I or even Mary Jane Holland in 2020, we can just rule them out immediately for their potential as singles. Radios will make sure they flop.

Let’s not act like she’s an obscure indie pop artist. She’s always been commercial anyways.
