culturalbaptism 2,873
During the downloads/CDs era, it was common practice labels releasing multiple versions of the same album and each version having a different bonus track to maximize sells: But now with the advance of streaming, we have a huge wave of albums in a stand alone form: Are you glad this era is finally behind us, with only a few older acts still trying to impose us with these useless multiple versions? Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin.
dynamite 54,500
I'm not bothered, it was always a choice to buy them in the first place and I actually like all the variations. Like a poem said by a neydy in red
ProdigyARTPOP 3,899
Not really, I hate this new method of rereleasing old albums and tacking on new tracks to revive said album. For me, it ruins & dishonors the creative process, your work should remain how it stands once you release it and you see fit, you shouldn’t be able to go back and continue to attach on new things, it’s just a way to get more RIAA units/ look good. I think they should have stuck to the traditional route of releasing it at the same time as the standard edition.
Queen Bitch 10,513
Yes. I hate deluxe versions of albums. It makes the standard version seem like an incomplete work of art. Plus it often comes off as a cheap money grab.
fede ARTPOP 6,692
I hate when theres 2 versions of the same song on Spotify, "single version" "album version" "deluxe version" MAYHEM / ARTPOP
Cookie Tookie 10,546
Nope. I like the option of having a deluxe album. I’m willing to pay more for more content.
Andreu 37,216
I came to this thread to say "chromatica deluxe says hi" but after seeing those screenshots... you're right, It used to be way too much.
Venus Rose 5,638
No. I love the deluxe version of albums with a separate cover and extra tracks. It's my choice to buy the album, and if I'm only buying one version, 9/10 I go with deluxe. I'm still hoping for a deluxe version of Kesha's latest album, actually. I prefer them over the original in most cases.

The outcuts would be b-sides of singles. I'm not bothered about them when we know all the 90s albums are killers in stand alone form. Imagine if Madonna decided to fill Like A Prayer with useless tracks? Imagine if Rhythm Nation had 6 useless remixes as bonus tracks? It takes value of the art indeed. I'm disappointed Chromatica will have multiple versions. If anything, having only one version makes the album stronger. Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin. NFRatwell 23,290
I think the idea of adding a finished song to a deluxe is stupid Deluxe should be for fans of an artist, who want to hear the demos, different mixes, or unfinished songs that couldn’t be done in time. Standard should be the work of Art you want to be heard by the general public, you want to be rated and heard.

culturalbaptism 2,873
I love that the deluxe version of ARTPOP is useless. The standard album is all you'll ever need. Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin.

If anything, having only one version makes the album stronger. I totally agree. Another thing I really dislike about deluxe versions of albums (and this may be nitpicking) is the different covers. For me it makes the covers forgettable when there are 3 or 4 different versions. Like just pick one and go with it. Look at Rebel Heart and Madame X they had like, what, 3 different covers. Of which only one was actually good btw. Imagine if Like A Prayer or Velvet Rope or Thriller had multiple different covers. I doubt they would have been as iconic and remembered as they are now. Again for me it just adds to the feeling of it being an incomplete work of art / cash grab. "Pay more to get 3 additional tracks that might as well have been on the standard version plus a different cover worse than the standard one". At least Chromatica only has one cover, so that's something
HausofGabo 1,262
in the way you presented it, yes. I hate the idea of having million versions of the same album changing just one song. But I do like the standard/deluxe edition, because it gives the possibility of getting a different cover + more music. I tend to get the deluxe ones. For example with Born this way I got The Collection, or with Joanne the japanese one.
