For example, the Year One Batman. Thats how amazing angles and lighting will make you look But Thats not how Robert looks 70% of the time. If that was how he looked this wouldn't be a conversation but he knows he is naturally a more slender guy and thats why he is talking about this

Saying someone needs to be ripped to "look the part" is part of the problem, like Pattinson is arguing. Also, superhero traits are constantly being developed and adapted in different ways. For Batman's character, you don't even need to be ripped. You just need to be physically fit. He relies more on technology, versus Hulk-like tactics lol Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time. REALITY 75,622
I don't know how to feel about this... On one hand, I love the idea of not having the "ideal" superhero. I think it's imperative to have representation, especially as an overweight guy, I'd love to see it. Having heroes of all shapes and sizes would be great to see. It helps to get rid of this stigma that all guys need to look a certain way, because whether y'all believe it or not, it's a real stigma. That said...this is a job where you have to transform into the character you're playing. Unless this movie will not have a lot of action sequences or physical activity, it honestly just seems like he's being lazy and coming up with this excuse of "Oh, people in the 70s didn't do this," so I shouldn't either! Like, you're playing one of the most popular superheroes of all time. You need to take that a bit more seriously. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎
Ziggy 11,384
So long as he’s basically fit I’m fine with it and I only say that because Batman is a very physical hero. Unless we’re suddenly doing a disabled Batman which I have heard no mention of so far lmao I agree that ripped isn’t super essential, but a certain base of physical fitness is otherwise it’s just improbable that he’s flying around the city and beating the ever living s*** out of goons. Plus, Chris Reeves as Superman wasn’t jacked but he was just pretty solidly fit. Sure, aim for that; I’m ok with that and that isn’t super dysmorphic. Good for him for standing his ground, though I also would like to point out the double standard between him and Zooey that allows him to be this firm on the stance. We really think they’d be as cool with a *woman* playing catwoman saying she isn’t going to rigorously work out? Nahhhh. That’s not on RPatz, though
AlexanderMagno 10,746
But he's not Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, or even Superman. They don't need to have muscles because they have superpowers. He has none. He's Batman, he trained both intelectually and physically his whole life to avenge his parents' death. He has the technology to support him, but there's a huge physical demand for him. If Robert Pattinson was playing Superman or Green Lantern (idk someone who has super powers) he could be the fattest guy on earth, and I'd totally support him. But he's playing someone who has no abilities and had to build himself up. This sounds like regular thoughtless SJW talk.

DiamondAngel 5,044
I agree that it’s not professional but I like the sentiment. You can be a superhero without looking so fit that you have to work out five days a week to achieve it. I mean honestly, why can’t we have a plus sized superhero? It might seem odd but it shouldn’t be.

You're an actor playing a superhero, it's your job to look the part, he's not taking this seriously. And of course actors from the 70s didn't do this, they didn't play superheroes, James Dean never played a superhero in a DC comic movie. Rationalizing not working out for some sort of 'human right' is just weird. Sure in real life everyone should do whatever they want, but you're an actor bruh, playing the freaking Batman I couldn’t agree less with you. The next James Bond is a woman. Would you say “Sure in real life everyone should do whatever they want, but you're an actor bruh, playing the freaking 007”. I don’t think superheroes need to look ideal. Actually I don’t wanna only live in a world/witness a world where they are idealised. Like why can’t batman be super skinny? Or why can’t we have some plus sized superheroes? Why does he need to have a sixpack? Not only good shaped people are ideal. And not wanting to let a character change or evolve is so last century. I’m ready for a normal looking batman or a femal James Bond, and so should everybody, fans and producers...
