I low-key hate this video because of that. Don't get me wrong, I think it's one of her most beautifully shot videos. The cinematography is amazing! But the religious blasphemous stunts, gurl I'm not here for that. She wore a rubber nuns outfit with an INVERTED CROSS TOWARDS HER CROTCH, and swallowed a rosary bead. She might have her reasons for that (I'm sure there's a whole church vs the gays reason blah blah) but the message I got was that she wanted to be controversial for the sake of it. It was also her most Madonna themed video. I got teas from Express Yourself, Vogue, and why not add some religious blasphemy with Like A Prayer. I'm glad she doesn't make videos like this anymore or feel she needs to be controversial for attention. Her songs praising her spiritual beliefs are better.

Yeah this video has Madonna written all over it.

but I love this video

Some examples from my country. Serge Gainsbourg was the king of provocation, and Mylène Farmer's video was the first time a woman's breasts were featured in a mainstream pop video. Also, both songs are bops.

Mylène!!

Can any music video be more iconic and kawaii than this? :billie:

The Hello Kitty video is a performance art piece which exposes the dark flaws within a corrupt and immoral society but juxtaposes it with bright and cheerful aesthetic... wow her MIND

I think the song was, not the video

I think the explicit version of the video was part of the controversy.

I wanna point out that people today think this video is controversial for the wrong reasons. I keep hearing that this video was controversial because she's making out with a statue portraying a "black Jesus" and that this video was offensive to racists for portraying him that way. But that statue is not Jesus, it's an actual Saint named Martin de Porres from South America who was canonized decades before this video was made  who was known for spreading the message of racial harmony. It's controversial because it looks like she was 'getting it on' with a Saint.

It is, however, one of her best-shot videos. All other things aside, I find this video to be one of her most stunning to watch. It's one of the many reasons I generally prefer she work with fashion photographers on her videos (like I&V). The creativity they bring and the way they highlight this streak of Gaga's own creativity is just lightyears ahead of what other collaborators of hers have been able to bring, by and large.

It's a beautifully shot video. She looks beautiful in the close up shots of her singing on screen. It's the best cinematography of her videos, I love how extended the song is. The gun bra is cool, the atmosphere is dark and edgy. The black and white scenes is reminiscent of Vogue. It really is a fashion themed video. Just wish she didn't feel like she had to cause religious attention to it, it didn't need it.
