CautiousLurker 19,430
I think ARTPOP (aside form being some of her best work) is her most ambitious project - whether it paid off or not is a different question (it did ), I don't think she'd try and reach so far if she didn't feel a personal connection... I also think it comes through in her vocal performance on the album which is one of her most intricate ones, so... yes Also the reason she doesn't bring up the album much nowadays isn't because she lost that connection imo, it's because it was panned so much it was genuinely upsetting... It really comes down to temperament - some people, when having their work criticized, will go on the defensive and dig their heels in, others will shut down... It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

I think ARTPOP is her weakest project Abandoning by singing two songs from it on Enigma and defending it on her Paper interview... sure luv .
Twitter 14
All of her albums are personal and contain deep meaning. Joanne is more personal imo.
Guest ARTPOPSlays
Joanne as a whole album isn’t specifically about her aaunt. She’s even mentioned, her middle name is Joanne, that the album is a cross between her as a rebel and her as her father’s daughter, her middle name being Joanne. Her aunt was just the inspiration behind the album to go back to who she was as a person rather then an artist, and how her fathers trauma from losing his sister deeply affected the family and the way she viewed her father. Also a lot of people say, it can’t be that personal of an album it has songs like DIC on it. But I have a theory on jw DIC and PI and how they link that I think I’m gonna make a thread on
Mr S 8,672
I don't think she has a personal album. Joanne is definitely NOT it. I guess by default, it's Artp0p but it's not that personal.
ARTGOD 3,266
I guess it all depends on how you define “personal”. I would argue all of her albums are personal on some level, but if you are talking about the album that lets you learn about Gaga the most then then I guess it is ARTPOP. The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way feel too much like they’re coming from different characters she’s creating, and they also tackle more general topics, although put through a Gaga filter. Joanne is very personal but it’s also aware that it’s trying to be personal so it feels too much like Gaga is producing herself to appeal to a certain audience. In ARTPOP Gaga tackles topics that are of unique importance to her and she delivers them without really caring how she’s coming across, so I guess despite it being her most electronic, ambitious and “manufactured” project it’s also her rawest and most honest. JRCF29 8,202
Joanne is her most personal album. Diamond Heart is about her days as a go-go dancer, and how her upbringing and young-adult experiences made her tough and shaped who she is today. Joanne doesn't need explanation. John Wayne is a song about her wanting something totally different out of her relationships, and is also potentially a metaphor for her disillusionment with fame and its confines. Dancin' In Circles is about loneliness and self-love, maybe a metaphor for finding the light in the dark. See John Wayne for Perfect Illusion, but it talks more about realization. Million Reasons also doesn't need explanation. Sinner's Prayer is also about love and a relationship, if it does seem more generalized, as she tries to heal through faith in the face of a break-up(s). Come To Mama isn't necessarily personal, but it's not impersonal either if that makes sense. Hey Girl we don't talk about Angel Down is another song about her personal disillusionment, but this time more with society as a whole than just fame or love. The song isn't about her, but it's clear she's singing from a personal point of view. Grigio Girls seems at least semi-autobiographical, an ode to trying to numb some of the harder, hotter moments in life. Just Another Day doesn't jump out as personal tbh. G.U.Y, Sexxx Dreams, Donatella, ARTPOP, DWUW and Applause are all good/excellent and I like/love em, but the good sisterns Fashion!, Venus () Swine, Dope, Gypsy, MJH, Gypsy and MISS JnD are either below average or truly terrible. It was experimental, it has its place in pop history, but it doesn't have a place on my shelf of top-tier albums Don't Call Me Gaga
Isidro Guevara 821
This is what I've said before! AP is like the diary of a celebrity! It sounds shallow but that's intentional. It's Gaga the celebrity in AP, it's Stefani in Joanne. I'll WRECK U right Up...G.U.Y.!!!🌋💥
