Criticizing the people that happened to be Chinese that created and spread this virus and for their government not giving us a heads up until it's too late is now racism

Social media being pretend woke as usual

There is zero reason to believe anyone "created" the virus (honestly humans don't even have the skills to do such a thing yet), and as for the origin, it's actually unknown. China is where it was first noticed, but really, we don't even know for sure that that's where it first entered the human population.

So yeah it's racism to assume stuff like that.

This has been debunked plenty of times. I don't understand why you keep believing some guy named Jim who runs a #coronavirusisfake podcast and never even finished high school

Additionally, the Chinese government only waited a few weeks before announcing the virus. Compare this to most countries of the world (USA, Canada, U.K. etc) where their governments LITERALLY laughed at the thought of this being serious enough to lockdown. Politicians worldwide mocked China for taking away their citizens' freedoms by introducing lockdown measures.

Well, look at the USA now. They waited THREE months before anything was done, and now they have millions of cases. So don't you dare blame China for this when the rest of the world just laughed at them for taking this seriously.

Chinese media silenced the coronavirus in early January for a week before they warned the public about it. Chinese doctor Dr. Li Wenliang was silenced by the Chinese government for warning people in early January of a new virus being spreaded and was taken into questioning for propaganda. This was China's failure at warning the public of a deadly new virus and surpressed this information long enough that it spreaded outside the country instead of taking precaution right away.

He’s not wrong about wet markets being an issue or about veganism being one solution. The issue is when you say stuff like this you have to be careful.

People are also ignorant that viruses can come from many animals, bat eating isn’t the primordial issue. There is avian flu, swine flu, etc. It’s more complex than some people like to think.

We should instead be asking China to have tougher regulations with these markets.

Thank you. Someone with some sense here. I think it’s important to look at what he said and understand that several points where made. I think he was addressing the situation itself of wet markets, not necessarily a specific racial population. But of course, people will twist it that way. And you are right, many animals carry certain viruses that mutate over time, or are isolated and manipulated in labs. The overall point is, we need to be much stricter on these markets that are filled with disease. It just happens to be an Asian market in this situation, but it should be applied to all markets of this sort around the world to prevent future pandemics.

It’s really made me think a lot about my personal eating habits, especially consumption of animals. I’m personally researching to make the transition into a healthier, non-animal diet.

Honestly never did he mention a race or an ethnicity of anyone... so I don't get how is this truly racist. Yea he could've worded it all in a bit less aggressive way.

Also, in general - we can't just cancel people if they haven't educated themselves on a particular issue like this (especially, where no one really knows the actual truth anyway). The things that he wrote is what most media outlets wrote when it all started and a majority of people probably have the same exact view and feeling as he does.

I didn't mean it was man made created, but that it was formed in China. And the criticism is that they didn't warn the masses fast enough to control it but their government saw it as a conspiracy theory and waited too long until it was too late. China's government deserves to be criticized for this.

How is that racist? He didn't say all of China, it clearly was to the people who were eating bats and selling those animals...? I'm pissed at the people who were eating the bats too; does that make me racist?

Question though...

Do you think race was implied? Because it seems like he poked at the behavior, rather than the race. That's my opinion, since bat eating is also done in some parts of Europe and Africa.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Whether you want to believe it or not, it is racist to blame this being a "Chinese virus." If this started in the United States, you wouldn't call it an "American virus" would you?

You cannot blame China for "not giving us a heads up" when the U.S. federal government is running a sh*t show right now. Like, honestly it's baffling that some of y'all don't see that. The government knew about this virus in January and February, but still did nothing about it. Blaming 100% of this on China and calling it a "Chinese virus" is indeed racist.

"Yeah, let's just blame China! China! China! China! Meanwhile, let's re-open movie theaters and restaurants; let's have anti-quarantine protests; let's not practice social distancing; let's not wear masks out in public; and let's take advice from a moronic president who suggested that you inject disinfectant."

Wait I'm naive I guess, where is he explicitly being racist? Even if it didn't originate in China/a man eating a bat, seems like he's being a morally superior , holier-than-thou vegan than anything but that's just my impression ?? :wtfga:

The person I quoted blamed the Chinese for "creating" the virus, spreading the virus, and also "not giving us a heads up."

Sorry but calling it a Chinese virus or Wuhan virus, is NOT RACIST

Diseases named after regions is very common.

Zika virus (a forest), Guinea worm (a country), Japanese encephalitis (a country), West Nile virus (a river), German measles (a country), Spanish flu (a country), Ebola (a river), Marburg virus (a German city), Lassa fever (a Nigerian town)

And let's not forget Lyme disease is named for a town in Connecticut. Norovirus is named for Norwalk, Ohio. Rocky Mountain spotted fever. And the Spanish Flu we don't actually know where it came from but we still call it that. Is it still racist?
